Hi all just after some advice and to what happens now and liability, i guess I'm getting screwed for it. Emma crashed the focus this morning when a bin lorry stopped without warning on wet road the cars inferno of emma only just avoided it and emma bumped the back of them focus is a write of as its only worth 500quid. as its mu car and on my insurance does that mean it will be me that forks out and is it unfortunately emmas fault? the good news is no-one was hurt but the bin lorry was oblivious to the shunt and departed as quick as a bin truck can go?
Everyone in that queue should have been expecting the bin lorry to stop at any moment - thats what they do. The fact it was wet doesn't help you, as Emma should have adjusted her speed to compensate for this. It seems everyone in the traffic behind the bin lorry managed this, apart from her frown

Its no big deal... consider it a cheap lesson learned. Insurance will deal with it, and if its just cosmetic damage to the Focus you could just continue to drive it as-is. Or bodge a repair if needed. Its not going to cost you anything at all for someone else to claim through your policy. Though it will probably impact further renewal quotes though that isn't a problem for today.

i love her optimism the only real damage is a scratch on the car in from it the focus that took the brunt of it. She's not dealt with situations like this before. ill bet i get a tonne of whiplash/can't work/im paralysed claims .....
You wont get any claims - your insurance will.

You are worrying too much, the only issue you have, is your car. If its only worth £500, and the young drivers excess may be high, you are unlikely to get anything for your car via the claim. If its repairable with a new bumper (or whatever damage is), you pay to fix it, and carry on driving. You only pay excess on the repairs to Your car, which will likley nullifu the total loss pay out. Therefore, dont claim for your car, just fix it yourself. (Unless its proper knackered that is...)

Anything to do with the other drivers hit by Emma, is dealt with by your insurance. So dont worry.

Yep, your insurance will rise, but only on renewall.

If the Focus is drivable and would pass an MOT it's not going to get written off. That only happens when the cost of repair requested is greater than the value of the car. You're probably looking at losing your No Claims Bonus and your excess if you get your car repaired. I had a bump with a 3rd party about 5 years ago and I didn't have to pay any excess, but it did affect my no claims.

Just seen the photos of the 2 cars she hit. well hit one pushing it into the other and it looks from the photos like bumpers only but we'll have to see

The excess is generally only payable on own damage claims - not the third party element. So if you don't claim for the damage to your own car there's no excess to pay.
This is the correct answer.

Dont bet on it... My Ex nudged someone at 3-5mph, they went onto empty roundabout and stopped (claimed they accidentally hit the brake) and we rolled into them.

Apparently we cause £8k of damages to them, we had no damage to our fiat bumper and there was no damage to theirs.

Why do so many people have difficulty understand the very simple concept that if you crash into the back of somebody else that it is your fault for driving too close or fast.

Thankyou for your wonderfully helpful comment. I wasn't shirking responsibility i was simple asking what happens next and a verification of something i had already assumed

Wrong! It could be both. Too fast AND too close. hehe

While it is possible to cause damage without getting much visible sign on the bumpers, I doubt £8k could be done without you hitting something pricey like a 250GTO.

It was a banged up Nissan Primera.

I didn't know the cost of the claim until it was too late as I suspected it was a crash for cash scam.

Of course, Emma the student. You know the one, does not pay attention whilst driving the knackered Ford Focus.

I think need a picture of Emma alongside some Birds custard. Otherwise I believe it's customary to have sausages hammered into your lawn or a can of Red Bull thrown at you.
