Emma first Accident
Discussion
Things on the road don't "suddenly" happen, and bin lorries designed to regularly stop don't just "suddenly and unexpectedly stop" either. As already discussed (and to be fair, acknowledged by you) the only reason three cars stopped and Emma didn't is because she was (1) tailgating (2) driving too fast or (3) not concentrating (or a combination of them).
That aside, you did well bagging her, son, you did well.

dont understand the custard/sausages comment but heres the Darling o/h
I'd probably delete the image in case she finds this thread and disembowels you.Generally if someone claims ownership to something people on PH say go and take a photo of it with a packet of Birds custard in XX spot, to prove it's yours. Because you won't find a picture on Google with the custard in that specific place it proves ownership. The sausages thing you'll find references to the more time you spend on here
The cause of the accident is now clear. It's a well known condition called "baby brain" which happens to all women who have recently given birth. The brain of the new mother turns to mush and stays that way for several years.
Cuddle her, comfort her and look after her. Accidents happen, cars can be mended or replaced, but she looks like a lovely mum to your child so cherish.....

Dont bet on it... My Ex nudged someone at 3-5mph, they went onto empty roundabout and stopped (claimed they accidentally hit the brake) and we rolled into them.
Apparently we cause £8k of damages to them, we had no damage to our fiat bumper and there was no damage to theirs.
While it is possible to cause damage without getting much visible sign on the bumpers, I doubt £8k could be done without you hitting something pricey like a 250GTO.Apparently we cause £8k of damages to them, we had no damage to our fiat bumper and there was no damage to theirs.
I suspect if you ran into the back of a car with a folding metal roof at the right angle, causing the roof to become misaligned and possibly damaged then you'll run up that sort of bill quite quickly.
As for more standard cars, based on how modern crash structures are designed to fold up on impact to absorb the impact, it depends on what needs replacing after the crash.
If the boot floor is creased, then to repair the car properly and back to the original specification, the whole floor has to be cut out and a new floor has to be welded in.
Whilst the floor itself may not be that expensive, there's a lot of hours in labour involved in removing the old floor, welding in the new floor, painting the new floor, refitting all the trim pieces etc., etc.
Added to all that will be any repairs required to the surrounding bodywork (say for example the rear quarter panel gets pushed in and creased).
If the insurance company go to a main dealer for repair quotes, with labour rates of @ £80 ~ £110 per hour (depending on location, manufacturer etc.,etc.), who insist on changing everything possible (Take the creased quarter panel for example: Whilst Joe Blogg's bodyshop will most likely happily just repair the quarter panel, the main dealer might insist on cutting off the rear quarter panel and welding a new quarter panel in place), then the repair bill can quickly escalate to stupid amounts.
This tends to be the reason why so many cars get written off by the insurance companies for what appears to be the most innocuous damage, because they don't look for the most cost effective method of repair.

Providing things are as they seem Ive just acquired a replacement set of panels in the right colour so result. no word off the 3rd party yet... Should i make emma contact them if we don't hear?
Good for you mate. That's a result on the panels. I wouldn't contact anyone direct. She presumably gave her details to the third party, if there was any visible damage they would be contacting their insurers if they felt the need and you will hear sooner or later. I wouldn't be prompting them.....
