Tax more important than MOT
Discussion
Keep hearing horror stories about new tax system and people getting cars clamped but recently moved and strange looking lad sometimes sleeps in his 51 plate clio in our road something to do /visits a neighbour but one saturday he sat in his car for 4 hours moving it round the street. Ran his plate as it looked abit ropey and mot expired 17th Feb 15, this was early march.
Came around today and still no mot but tax and insurance, my area must have no anpr rpu cars ever as they seem to be like rocking more poo.
Cant believe in this day and age you can get away for well over two months.

This site gives both MOT & TAX, though the tax can be up to 5 days out of date .

However, when I last had similar, I found the staff at DVLA only too helpful. But don't rely on the DVLA report system working . Similar problem with 101, as no tax/MOT are not high on list. I share the same concerns on ANPR, as I regularly see patrols with roof mounted ANPR down our street ,but have yet to see any of them bother with cars I've reported .( Before I get flamed - most of these show both expired for a long time, and are taking up much needed parking space in a road where parking is at a premium for those who pay their dues). Strangely enough, all the approaches to our town centre are covered by ANPR cameras and I see regular patrols stopping vehicles in the town centre area.
BUT then - we know VED is more important than MOT. MOT, only affects safety . Avoiding VED means evading paying TAX- for which CRIME HMG would deport you (if there was any island not enforcing a ban Brits with criminal records ).

I have to question how effective those ANPR cameras actually are.
For some reason i mistakingly thought my MOT ran out the end of January this year, when, in fact it ran out June 2014.
During that time i travelled M25 twice a week, via Dartford and nothing came of it, even though since November the cameras ping each vehicle through the toll ( apparently )
I also commuted a fair few times from Colchester to Derby, via A14 & M1.
The only thing i can assume is that they are more concerned with Tax & Insurance.

I also believe police ANPR does not pick up on no MOT. Last year I got followed for ages by a traffic car whilst leaving the pub. He eventually pulled me for a bks excuse and it was only when he radioed through did he realise the MOT was out. He then suggested he could impound the car for no MOT (another load of bks). Anyway I just got "words of advice" in the end.
