I don't suppose you could a big 'Streetcop' sign on the top of your plod car?
Dave.

The S60 has a very thin light bar on top to assist the aerodynamics...so a huge streetcop sign would just hinder my progress..

It's telling that North Yorkshire don't have them because the police don't believe in them.

Never EVER been stopped for anything in North Yorks, and drive at my briskest there. Always seen very professional police response to accidents (had family and been in one myself in North Yorks), and found their presence out in the countryside to be nice and clear and a good deterrent.

Cross over to West Yorkshire and it's like a police state... get stopped for looking suspicious, response to accidents is poor (don't close roads, or have cars driving all over evidence etc), and they have cameras all over the shop in Headingley and Horsforth, even though they always seemed VERY safe to me!

North Yorkshire thankfully stand out as a country with traffic police that still do their PROPER job, police the roads, not just send out NIP's and respond to accidents once they've happened.

I guess the same can probably be said for Durham too, good on the road presence!

Dave

My sister lives in N Yorks und says the same thing ... und have cousin who ist BiB in Durham ....who claims the same thing

But ... I would not like to be on receiving end of his acid wit

Speed Cameras have nothing to do with safety, and everything to do about making money.

They DO have something to do with safety and the DO go some way to making the roads safer.

You are in lah-lah land!

They do however, detract from policing, they are situated in poor places at times and the area cheap way to police the roads.

MORE TRAFPOL NEEDED[/quote]

They are all placed in areas where they make cash und most of these areas have less police around. Dibs on ownsome und over 300 scams und no significant decrease in incidents in Kodak County.....:;rolleyes:

...and of course we wouldn't wish to have that happen.

After all, you might want to chase the really bad guys, and not well behaved speeders like our goodselves.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I can only speak for my county..

There are roads which have had numerous RTCs in the past, that now have cameras in strategic places and now there are very few RTCs..

In other places, cameras are posted near junctions and this has seriously reduced RTCs in those areas...

In addition, if my shift spend a week with the pro-laser in one area....day 1 you're getting about 30% of drivers, 15% day after and at the end of the week...only a handful are stopped..

Have you taken into consideration "regression to the mean" in those figures?
If there was an accident cluster due to possible bad conditions/poor road surface etc at site A in year 1 before a scamera was put up and then the accident cluster disappeared in year 2 even though the scamera was up, it dosent follow that the scamera had anything to do with it....if ya know what i mean.

So in fact your laser does not cause drivers to slow down initially, wheres the 'safety' in that? Ok, so over the week a few local people may have spread the word and local drivers slow down, but I bet you a milion quid everyone speeds up again as soon as they're out of sight. I know its not your policy - you're just acting on orders, but congratulations, you've protected lets say a 200 metre stretch of road from the evil speeder. But at what cost? Of course, financially it probably pays for the man hours many times over - thats the whole point of it - however the general public would almost certainly argue that there are much more effective ways to spend your time as a trained police officer.

Do you honestly think that spending a week holding a laser gun is the best use of your time?
