The level of innumeracy is frighteningly high.
EG:
I buy two £4.99 items on a market stall and the trader gets a calculator out. Looks stunned when I tell him the answer.
I have a relative who is a very senior civil servant. Cannot use a calculator or a spreadsheet.
Joe Public gets to vote but can't add up.
There are three types of people in the world; those who can count and those who can't.EG:

I've never seen the point of doing anything other during average cam zones than just hitting the cruise control to base plus 10% and letting the car drive itself. Seeing the dumb grins on people's faces as they overtake, as though they are taking P1 at Monaco, whilst simply gaining a three-pointer, is surreal. If you give plod a chance to give you a ticket on those things, you deserve everything you get. If they jump out a bush with a scamera, or park around a blind bend, at least you had no chance to do anything about it, but a signposted bright yellow box/set of yellow gantries with obvious cameras on them, that's just stupid.
What I'd like to do is have 2 identical cars, linked with 'phones and set one of at first camera and the other from a junction just before the 2nd camera so that it comes up with 450MPH or similar. The notion of doing it and the resulting ticket brings out the 5 year old in me...... It would have to be identical slow cars of course

Yep, this is how to take the stress out of the average speed section. Set it at 55 (in a 50 limit) and chillax. Jezzerh said:

Now this I like
Imagine the head scratching in the office when whoever verifies the tickets checked it

Has anyone here, or someone they know, had a ticket from an average speed setup?
About 10 years ago when they were building the 2nd thelwall viaduct it was 50 AV sped for months, a neighbours brother picked up some weekend work the other side of the viaduct He got 4 points on Saturday and 4 points on Sunday , luckily it was only 2 days work or he'd be banned, he said he assumed they wouldn't be on at 6am at the weekend so tanked through at 70

Are they stressful? I don't find them so.I must ask Mrs Bert what she thinks. She's clever (for a woman), but views driving as getting from a to b and even then only as a last resort. If I were a driving tester giving her a driving test, I'm not sure I'd pass her. She also thinks that speed limits are actually a limit. I'll ask her how the av cams work and report back.

Quite. I set cruise to 53 and that's that. The abuse you get for doing this, particularly from truckers who seem to think the 50 limit has an exemption from them. Last week I spent an entire 8 mile stretch in lane 1 being flashed repeatedly by a trucker. Tough st!As for those who want to start playing silly games over which cameras have floodlights in front of them....good luck to them in keeping their licence. I have no idea why these people can't just put up with it for the duration, it's a minor inconvenience but you get to keep your licence.
My only real grievance with these stupid roadworks is that lane discipline goes even more out of the window than normal.

well it does have a form of exemption for truckers. when the enforcement is recommended to start as soon as the limit +10% +2mph is reached, 57mph in a 50 limit, and trucks are restricted to 56mph by governors on their vehicles truckers drive with their foot hard to the floor at 56mph.As for those who want to start playing silly games over which cameras have floodlights in front of them....good luck to them in keeping their licence. unfortunately the result is compliant drivers with an HGV inches from their rear. Professional Drivers eh?
It's probably more to do with the truckers speedo being calibrated and thus much more accurate that your car. His indicated 50 is probably faster than your indicated 53. I tend to sent my cruise at just above what the trucks are doing, that way I'm not in their way and am still legal.
I have been through at an indicated 60 before, but my tyres are quite worn so it's a real 55 or so. Usually though I go with an indicated 55-57.

Are you 100% sure you read the limit correctly? Not saying you didn't but if you're the only one trying to do what you think is the limit, you might have misread something.
Yes, it was the A14 at Cambs. 40 not 50 sadly. And there was a fair few people sticking roughly to 40, but oh so many who flew past then braked hard....Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
