The little foam filters are not going to be biodegradable either....
S.
They are made of cellulose acetate, and therefore can be composted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulose_acetateS.
I hate littering, it really bothers me. I also smoke around 10 roll ups a week. If there's a bin or ash tray available I'll use it, the exception being I won't use the ash tray in my car as it causes the car to stink. The ends are thrown overboard, generally on the motorway. They're small, they turn to mush at the first sign of rain, I don't really see how that impacts others or the environment in any meaningful way.

Intolerant opinions being voiced. Cigarette butts not nice but are they worse than the mountain of coffee cups generated every day? Or is coffee and acceptable addiction? How about alcohol? They odd whiff of second hand smoke seems fairly harmless compared to the impact of drinking (fights, domestic violence, sexual assaults, RTCs, impact on NHS and productivity from drinking related accidents or ill health). Shouldn't we ban drinking too?
I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.
Ah there are worse things excuse.I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.
When something is wrong it is wrong. It doesn't make it right because something else is worse.
Just pointing out the intolerant, aggressive comments. Most on here seem very tolerant of their own sins (speed limits don't apply to me etc) yet vicious in their condemnation of the sins of others.

Fag ends come under the "Litter-what is and isn't Act 1938". Brought in just after the abdication on Edward VIII.
Section 21 of that act clearly states fag ends and other smoking detritus such as chewing gum, favoured by those blighted by tobacco and are coming to their senses, are not to be considered as litter. Sub section (2) further says that no British subject shall either notice, comment upon or be otherwise offended by such deposits in the U.K. Ant its dominions.
So there you go.
By the way, the act got royal ascent pretty quick, the royals are notorious chain-smokers.
According to this, that has been superceded. https://www.havant.gov.uk/littering-and-dog-foulin...Section 21 of that act clearly states fag ends and other smoking detritus such as chewing gum, favoured by those blighted by tobacco and are coming to their senses, are not to be considered as litter. A quick google shows lots of Councils saying the same thing, as well as wails in the press about how unfair it all is. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

If I had my way I'd ban alcohol completely - cigarette butts come much further down the list.
You remind me of that geezer who invented a bra that stopped women's nipples from sticking out in the cold weather, a group of people dragged him out and gave him a kicking....Edited by popeyewhite on Sunday 9th October 12:21

The car stinks because YOU smoke in it yet you think it's acceptable to throw your cigarette butts out of the window. Amazing.

Don't see the logic of this. If you smoke in your car you are aware your car stinks anyway?Perhaps as a smoker you don't notice, but any non smoker will tell straight away.
Neighbour bought a car about 6 months ago from a smoker and the smell is still there...

As an earlier poster said, I'd quite happily pick up your stinking fag end and throw it back into your car, I don't think it would it would affect the environment inside your car in any meaningful way.SVTRick said:

Motorcycling on the motorway I've had a couple of cigarette ends come flying into me over the years.Based on this I'd say your actions are selfish, hypocritical, disgusting & pretty scummy.
Looks like Russell has taken some real hustle on this one.
