Fag ends - acceptable to drop?

Intolerant opinions being voiced. Cigarette butts not nice but are they worse than the mountain of coffee cups generated every day? Or is coffee and acceptable addiction? How about alcohol? They odd whiff of second hand smoke seems fairly harmless compared to the impact of drinking (fights, domestic violence, sexual assaults, RTCs, impact on NHS and productivity from drinking related accidents or ill health). Shouldn't we ban drinking too?
I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.
The OP question was about a dropped fag end and the response from the perpetrator. Why bring in global warming?I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.

Fag ends come under the "Litter-what is and isn't Act 1938". Brought in just after the abdication on Edward VIII.
Section 21 of that act clearly states fag ends and other smoking detritus such as chewing gum, favoured by those blighted by tobacco and are coming to their senses, are not to be considered as litter. Sub section (2) further says that no British subject shall either notice, comment upon or be otherwise offended by such deposits in the U.K. Ant its dominions.
So there you go.
By the way, the act got royal ascent pretty quick, the royals are notorious chain-smokers.

We get loads dropped on the road outside our house from vehicle drivers. They all then blow onto our frontage and drive and I have to pick them up and bin them. I think our house is placed at the point from town where someone lighting up there has finished as they pass us.
Saw a knobber in the supermarket car park the other day drop a lit one. Was stood leaning on his car smoking it, then just casually flicked it on the floor. Didn't say anything as I was in the car I was trying to sell.
It's a disgusting thing to do. People just seem to do it and not really care.

AIUI they only hate other people's litter.Silly old me, eh. Even when I'm out in the sticks on my bike, I put the wrappers for my energy bars back in my pockets when I have consumed them. Should really stop giving a st and just throwing them on the floor. Not my job to clean them up, is it.
The authorities in Singapore seem to have a way of dealing with the fag droppers...
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-singapore-litter...
"Singapore has fined a smoker S$19,800 ($15,000) for throwing cigarette butts out of his flat window, the National Environment Agency said, the highest ever such fine.
The man was fined S$600 per cigarette for the first 33 offences, and ordered to do community service for the 34th, all committed within four days, the agency said."
A former workmate visited Singapore a few year ago and said that he watched a guy finish his cigarette and walk fifty yards to put it in a bin. Can see why, obviously.

Ah there are worse things excuse.I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.
It's a fair point he's making that you and others won't entertain, that's all.
If I had my way I'd ban alcohol completely - cigarette butts come much further down the list.
I'd also ban takeaway coffee and plastic supermarket bags of any kind.

It's a small pinch of shredded leaves and a wisp of thin paper.
full of chemicals I hope there is a day when fags are banned and confined to smokers own homes. It just seems prehistoric considering ecigs etc now available as an alternative, the mess and crap that comes with smoking cancer sticks.
wildlife are also effected by the left over fags, nicotine is a poison.

The ends are thrown overboard, generally on the motorway.
Motorcycling on the motorway I've had a couple of cigarette ends come flying into me over the years.Based on this I'd say your actions are selfish, hypocritical, disgusting & pretty scummy.

whilst i hate fag ends ( and my local court is dishing out 400+ quid fines to those who get caught ) ecigs are a problem for litter where i live. we have a brilliant ecig shop, but when people leave, what seems like half throw the empty refill bottles or the boxes they come in on the floor outside. although, it must be said that there are nowhere near enough bins on that street.I hope there is a day when fags are banned and confined to smokers own homes. the are unique as the effect they have is underestimated by the users, thus chucking with inpunity, and not disposed of properly. Smart alecs underestimate the impact because they basically ignorant to it.http://tobaccocontrol.bmj.com/content/20/Suppl_1/i...
'Moerman and Potts demonstrate the presence of heavy metals in cigarette butt leachates—the toxic soup produced when butts are soaked in water; Slaughter shows that only one cigarette butt will kill half the fish exposed to leachates in a controlled laboratory setting; '

Disagree. I don't understand why society should treat it differently to any other kind of litter. I certainly wouldn't want it to suddenly be OK to drop a chewing gum wrapper, just because of its size...coolhands; ex-smoker and butt-dropper oohh err

The 38-year-old smoker, who was caught on surveillance camera, will have to clean a public area for five hours wearing a bright vest bearing the words "Corrective Work Order".
Make them clean up chewing gum and dog poo. HustleRussell said:
There's smoking and there's smoking, one a week is rather different to 20 a day- open all the windows and it pretty much disperses entirely. Stub it out and keep it in the ashtray and the car will smell like an ashtray.
Not really, empty your ashtray each time you fill with fuel and your car will smell little more that it already does from the roll-ups you smoke in it. That said, I accept that roll-ups are just paper and leaf so not comparable to dog ends. However I do object to people tossing fag ends out of car windows. A few of my cars are open top and numerous times I've been following someone with roof down and had a fag clip the car. Fortunately none have come in but it could happen. It's just damn inconsiderate.
