Do the points start from date of offense or from the court date?
I might have missed this being addressed amongst the thread-bickering, but what's the detail behind this specific question?

Had you a number of points already on your license at the date of the offence that have matured and expired between then and the summons?
Speeding points are from date of offence, bans from day in court. Check here:

Wish you luck fella.
Any chance Haymarket could autodelete the 'you are a ' responses to peoples requests for advice?
fk me I wouldn't fancy my chances of finding a good samaritan these days on here.
Although just realised that is cos most of em are banned. biggrin
No because you need this otherwise if all was positive might falsely assure one that your compatriots don't see it as a big deal. It's part of learning, on a 'speed matters' forum posters DONT agree.

Oh I don't want people to agree with me, that would reduce the attraction of this place.
Just would rather not have to trawl through endless ste stating the obvious in order to find something of interest.

I'd suggest this too, find your best Union Rep and get the low down on what you can and cant have on your licence and still keep your job. I know a DD would mean never working for the majority of the big companies again but a short term ban might not be so bad. I'm sure if you're well thought of at work they'll not want to lose you, used up some holiday, lieu days and maybe a few unpaid?

You know you've been stupid, I dont know what the point of carrying on slating you is tbh, I suspect IF you keep your DL you'll not be doing much speeding again.

Keep us updated.
I will do this first thing on Monday, even if I don't vet banned I may still not be able to drive with a certain amount of points! Thanks for support

What rules do TFL have for their drivers re traffic convictions?
I'm guessing that you would have needed a clean driving license to get the the job, but what are the consequences of accruing points whilst in employment? Again I suspect a chat with your union rep is in order and a look at your contract.

Not sure about TFL but a quick google shows most places dictate no more than 6 points.

Would not being a bus driver make his situation worse, on the assumption the courts will consider he was exceptionally irresponsible given his job - ergo he drives car at +60 in a 30 limit what will he do behind the wheel of a bus?

In the end, the courts will think whatever they want but it is stupid argument to make and one that holds no weight.

I love a night out on the pop as much as the next man, but I won't drink at work functions as I like to maintain a certain level of professionalism.

My work and home life are not the same thing....

It's an argument that holds with the Traffic Commissioner.
They're quite happy to suspend just your vocational part of your licence so you can't work even where a court hasn't banned you from driving.

Your defending a bloke you've never met whose twice the limit. People WILL vent/say their displeasure.
Maybe some of the abuse is because some of us get sick of the same kneejerk OP-abuse every time someone comes on here to ask for advice after being caught speeding.

Maybe there should be one thread in SP&L for people to vent their spleens in as required about their hatred of speeding, then in other threads people could come on and seek advice, without being flamed by all the usual posters.

You know, like they used to on PH.
Very well said!

As you're a bus driver in London I take it you may be a member of Unite?

They offer a free legal advice helpline that you should use. They are also affiliated to Thompsons solicitors who if I remember correctly offer a free initial consultation and reduced rates for union members.

Speak to your union rep BEFORE your employers about how it may play out. I know a number of London bus drivers and they all say one thing in common - crap managers, so only tell them when you know the result.
Very well said as well!

Good advice for the OP & good advice for the would be posters in this forum!

You will get massively screwed over at the Mags for this. Get a good lawyer or bend over.

I had the same exact speed in a 30 many years ago (circa 1999) and got 4 points and a £150 fine.

No idea, just showed up at the magistrates court looking sorry and that's what i got.

I think the maximum points is 6, maximum ban of 56 days and maximum fine of £1000

It was a dry day, dual carriageway, very little traffic.

I was a student at the time so that explains the small fine as it was means tested.

You didn't plead by post to drag it out (and make them summon you back a bit later?)

No, I didn't want to waste court time. Just thought being upfront and honest from the get go was the best course of action

Good luck anyway, had this myself in September, just read out my mitigation statement (hope you got some advice from AGT) and all went well, well as good as it could have done - 6 points for 105-110 on the M25

Thanks. Me and AGT exchanged a few emails. He helped me format the letter correctly, didn't edit the letter itself, so I assume it was decent enough and on topic for what the courts want.

I'll be heading into bexley magistrates now guys, I will update once out!
