I couldn't believe this the first time I saw it but I have just parked in a pay and display in Great Yarmouth and on the back of the parking signs it states that if you do not display a valid tax disk you are contravening the parking regulations.

The only reason I saw it was because I parked away from everyone else behind the machine. The other three quarters of the car park would have approached the machine from the front and not seen it.

If you are saying that this statement was only made on the reverse of the sign by the ticket machine, I should have thought it would be difficult to sustain in law - Streaky (IANAL)

The front of the machine did state that the full parking conditions could be obtained from the council. Do councils need to state all parking regulations on the sign? What if they stated that the parking regulations are available at the town hall only to find that when you return to your car you have a ticket because it is green, and when asking for the regulations from the council you find that this is one of the rules.

That's the usual 'get out clause'; however, if contravening an unobvious regulation is likely to result in a ticket, then (IMHO) it should be clearly and evidently stated. It's not like parking outside the marked lines, for example, and most notices (and tickets too) make statements about the obvious such as actually displaying the ticket ... albeit, some wardens can take that requirement too literally.

The views of those with formal legal qualifications are welcomed.
