Saw a MB CLK63 Cab at £15,500 online

Its in London done 101k miles so I asked if a MB health check could be done if so I will pay £350 more and the balance on collection.

All done and emails with pictures etc and an email this morning stating the discs and pads needed doing circa £1400 - no problem I expected it still having it no haggling.

Email tonight saying very apologetically that traders had called offering full price saying its very cheap, he looked a few up that had been sold and now wants £20,500.

He has offered to refund my £150

What would you do and what are my rights (if any) transfer was requested as a deposit on the sale of the car and was none refundable as far as I was concerned and paid to his bank.

I had exactly the same problem when buying an A180 with/for my friend. Seller realised he had sold it too cheap and then a day later his uncle rang and asked for a bigger deposit, we paid and then the next day uncle rang back again and said someone had offered more and did we want to match?

Told him no so he refunded the deposit. Car then came for sale at EH for 2k more than we agreed. Prick. Although taking the refund was the correct option I do wish my friend had said no, bought it from EH and then sued him for the difference. Really annoys me people putting their word to something and then changjng their mind for a few quid.

Tell the seller you were buying the car and then selling it to a dealer near you for £23k.

Make him think he is still being fleeced and his current deal might also fall through whistle

Was having a discussion recently about this. We came to the conclusion that the whole ' a deals a deal once you shake on it and 'gentleman's agreement' went out years ago.

Some people are just s and no amount of agreeing will changed them.

I'm by no means soft but while the (now fell through) win here would taste sweet to some it would be a little sour to me.

Not 25% its gone from £15,990 and a haggle to £25k - more than the decent no work required ones that have sold before. Its a certain "type" of person I guess who has no clue what they are driving or its value until told. He should be happy in a Datsun Bluebird!
