"Think back to your youth" someone said......Ok!

Me and bros built a sop box racer.
Only it wasnt a soap box.
It was built from a trolley that was used to heave oxygen bottles for cutting equipment around.
It had big rubber tyres on the back with enough seating room for 3 up.
Braking was the least worried/thought about item and recieved minimal attention, instead much thought was poured into the rearward facing flame thrower.
It consisted of a can of aerostart plumbed into a nozzle on the back steel panel along with a lighter to light it.
We pushed this thing around 2 and a half miles to a particularly long straight downhill run and proceeded to launch it, on the road i might add, bobsleigh style.
Christ only knows what speed we got to but it felt very very fast and the brakes were, well, inadequate to put it mildly.
The flamethrower on the other hand was a resounding success... the look on the face of the following driver in his cortina was an absolute picture.
I dont think he could believe what he was seeing as we pelted, full tilt down the carriageway with a 5 foot flame out the back.
He must of thought it was rocket powered or just on fire.
It only got run in "Batman" mode on a couple of occasions before we moved onto BMX's and cos the brakes were dire and the thought of a major spill on the road wasnt particularly appealing to us, and me especially, as id already had a big "off" and landed arse sideways ripping a big hole in my jeans and making my butt feel like it was about two feet bigger than it actually was.

Ahhhh those were the days.

Tell you what, I'd ban the sale of mini motor bikes and off road trial bike unless the buyers signed a certificate proving they would use them away from public places and country parks. They're a nuiscence to people, wild life and are probably uninsured.

They're fine away from public roads - I wish we'd had one years ago instead of that Royal Enfield 650 we used to ride through the woods - so heavy.

Thing is, I heard this buzzing the other day and there was one - tiny it was - with two kids on it - about 15yo - going through our village at about 40mph - no helmets etc.

Dangerous!

Never mind those mini motos, what about four years old kids driving around in electric powered 4wd's that are about the size of a mini? What are the parents thinking?

I suppose now I would have a nice set of ASBO's.

Only if you honk your horn (no, it's not rude, missus!) outside the house of the fare you've come to collect - Streaky

Actually Streaky whilst an ASBO may or may not the right way to make an offence out of this the honking of the hooter when collecting a fare just irritates the life out of me.

Likewise those who depart from visiting relatives/friends. You have just said goodbye so why the need for an additional honk? That is one offence for which capital punishment should be considered.
FiF - I agree about the latter, but isn't the former just an "audible warning of approach"? Not that I agree with it though. Mind you, hereabouts we're mostly one car per adult per household and an easy walk to the railway station, so taxis on collection are few and far between - Streaky

Well, they generally park up and then honk the horn when stationary, which is an offence isn't it?

I live next to a country park and adjacent to a bridalway, I have spent most of the weekend listening to these little ba**tards raceing Go-Peds minimotorbikes and full sized motocross machines, unlicenced unregistered uninsured on public highways rights of way and park land. What they are doing is illegal and dangerouse.
So far, in two years our local Bib are proud to report that they have issued a number of warnings including five last week, these have had no effect whatsoever. Towman you are very very wrong

I'll say again, for what? If they have broken any laws, fair enough, but have they done this? They are selling something legal. Do they have a legal duty to tell people how they should use it? The wine shop doesn't do that with wine, or the tool shop with hammers.

It’s a fairly well tried tactic thought. If you cant catch car tax evaders make everyone fill out sorn`s, If a car is broken into then the owner should not have left any thing of value in view ect, anything as long as you don’t have to do what you are paid for.

It may well be, but it is not an offence for the off license to sell it, or to fail to check what it will be used for, so it is hardly relevant.

It's a bit worrying seeing policemen on here suppporting the prosecution of people who have not broken any laws. Takes zero-tolerance enforcement a little bit beyond the land of the sane.

i was at rye house kart track on monday and they had a little mini moto thing, on the track. They done some unofficial races. and it looked like they all enjoyed themselves. it was good to watch....wouldnt swap my karting for it. but it did look fun.
maybe they could organse an event at the kart tracks (most are suited to mini moto quite well) and do some non MSA races on a week night.
I would say at the weekend but as a karter i wouldnt be too happy losing my practise sessions, they get disrupted enough by corp. events.

A sensible idea i think, and the kart tracks will make some money too.

Give em someplace to go and youll get a reduction in these kinds of problem....keep "clamping down" and itll just get worse.
Solutions there for all to see; no extra laws needed, just set aside a place for them. Easy and painless for all.
Same with the boy racer "problem".

They already do. Minimoto racing has been up and running for over ten years. Both regional and National race series'. It's only since the latest influx of crap chinese cheapo bikes that the bikes are becoming more prevelant especialy as the chinky ones are cheap enough for every man jack to afford one.
