Pure guess circa 6-8 tonnes.

if it was even 75mm deep as you stated previously then:

area ( say 8m X 6m) = 48m2 x 0.075 = 3.6m/3

3.6 X 2 (Ton per m/3) factor dependent on type of material

Total weight = 7.2T
When I used to do stock calculations I usually used 1.7 to 1.8 for Type 1 calcs. Mind you, that was for metres cubed to tonnes rather than tons.
From memory you are correct and these would be the ratios my QS would use, however he often got exasperated after spending many hours taking off quants and pricing them only for me to guesstimating the total price within 5% off the top off my head....not forgetting I always allowed 10% for wastage also.

Yeah, but I used to survey stocks properly (I was a land surveyor in a previous life) so used to get them bang on anyway...;-)

Do you know how much the hardcore would be jappa? As the drive man left me £160 to give to the 'grab bloke', im not sure if this was for the hardcore or the spoil to be carted away. Il give the company a call later see what I can find out. Thanks again.

Progress update for anyone still reading this!

Im ordering the blocks today, Plaspave Modena Granite, from local merchant. Wife's old school friend was a block paver while ago, now does mainly landscaping, im paying him to give me a hand or probably more like I give him a hand, on the weekends only, hopefully get a decent bulk done this weekend. Wish id know about him a month ago.

£14.04 plus vat per sqm. 8.95 sqm per pack. (10 packs) I think this is a decent price. And 8 ton of sand. (total area is 85sqm)

Is that sufficient?

Should add these are 50mm blocks, do i need 60mm or is 50 sufficient.

Also do you paving guys recommend sealing the blocks to keep the colour and protect them?

Got to be honest the trade as a whole is driving me insane. The culture for wanting stuff cheaper and cheaper and the dheads who seem proud of how cheap they can do it are really starting to fk things up.
You have my sympathy.

Personally I wouldn't ask someone to drop a quote to match the cheapest; you're just going to end up with the job not being done to the same standard; less money means something has got to give.
