Given that they're willing to return the car to you without charge, it sounds like the line about the seized bolt is true and they can't be arsed going any further due to the risk of other seized bolts etc. My friend has a 2005 RRS and just changing the shelf protecting the fuel tank resulted in us having to deal with a few rusted and seized bolts.

It'll be interesting to see how you get on with the next garage and what they say.
This ; I've also had 5 and 6 year old cars with mega corroded nuts and bolts. I've also had cars that are the same brand etc. but even years after are generally pretty good in that area.

It's luck of the drawer unfortunately. I got caught out on my latest car albeit an oldish one. A 1/2 hour job became a good few hours and another £100 on top for some new pipes frown. FWIW I did the work myself ; but I'd have been cursing the dealer/trader if they were in the same position.

Luck of the drawer - is that when you get dressed in the dark of a morning and it's 50/50 whether you've got yours or the wife's on? A bit embarrassing changing for the lunchtime 5 a side with your workmates!,

Sadly from my experience the one I dealt with treated me like a little person and brow-beat me. I don't like anyone getting bullied so stood my ground and I imagine many give in. OP good luck

I can't believe 2CV is a genuine person and not a pedantic bot just trying to wind folk up.
He's just a typical internet expert-on-everything via two seconds googling on every topic.
He's a sad individual with too much time on his hands. Hence the ridiculous number of mainly pointless posts during a fairly short time on PH.
All true.

If they quoted you, not estimated, then point blank refuse to give them any more money that the quote issued for the work requested.
That's how quotes work. When you get sorted, if they continue to be a PITA, just make sure you vote with your feet and bad mouth them to as many people as possible.

They gave me two options, I went with the gearbox out as would anyone else as it was cheaper and the result is the same.
They told me 5 hours to do this job, I said go ahead.
They then rang me and said the route they tried has failed due to a seized bolt so they will need to take the gearbox out to do the job.

I told them they were supposed to take the gearbox out to do the job as that's what I was told would be happening.
If the above is 100% accurate, I can't see how any sensible, reasonable, educated human being (2manyfrenchpiecesofst aside) could disagree with you.

Made I laugh - I think I have gotten the answer as to 'what' rather than 'who' said TooMany2cvs is.

and it's made my day. Well that and the sun being so prominent, of course
