Just been on the Barnet website and now that there are images, CLEAR IMAGES, my darling wife has suddenly remembered that she stopped to "run in and get something" from the shop.

She sent me into battle... I despair.

Thanks for your comments.

The problem is that they have heard every excuse under the sun so you can't blame council etc from being suspicious.
Their motivation is what drives them, and it isn't the truth whatever the quality of excuse.

What I said is absolutely true. One thread like this doesn't prove otherwise

The problem is I've never come across any evidence that Council staff are on any kind of bonus scheme to issue tickets so why would they target (assuming not a genuine mistake which can be appealed) innocent motorists. You are causing trouble and headaches for yourself when someone appeals!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-new...

The above article shows that less that 0.5% of appeals are successful. Some people won't appeal but there aren't that many mistakes!

?

Eight million tickets, 35k successful appeals. Or do you mean this post is about bus stops and the article parking? If so you're right I'm just talking about wardens generally.

50% of the appeals made were succesful. Perhaps a lot more should have appealed but just payed up to make it go away.
Sign of the times, after a while the oppression just wears you down.

I've spelt successful wrong. That's the biggest crime on this thread.

It does prove Tom's point, though.

Don't get too carried away, this is some dropkick on near enough minimum wage desperate to believe his life is worthwhile. The Council have given him a fancy job title in lieu of having to pay him a decent salary.
Thanks for that, major respect for the job and the people that do it there, I get sick to death of being called a jobsworth, accused of only ticketing for my bonus (what bonus?????), and the other chestnut of get a proper job.

I certainly am not a dropkick and I don't need a title to make me feel like my life is worthwhile, we do other stuff apart from booking people that can not or will not park properly, ask the guy on Monday that I gave details to of the van that walloped his and then drove away, or the lady that I accompanied across town because she was lost and getting distressed, or the old man that couldn't remember where he parked his car and the more he tried to remember the more upset he was getting, so we just sat and chatted until something jogged his memory and we found his car.

If people persist in thinking the rules don't apply to them, and that they can park wherever they want there will always be a need for us. As has been said to me many times, the only people that have a problem with us are the ones that take the chance and get caught. Park properly and you never notice us!

^ Agree

As someone who has spent time stuck between the people who feel the rules don't apply to them (parking, speed, general regulations) and the people who demand you do something about said people, you become a little sensitive to it.

I dread to think what the roads would be like if people like speedchick weren't around.

Also fair play to OP for holding his hands up... we've all been there vis-a-vis wives biggrin

Thanks guys, I did wonder if I had been a little touchy with my post as it's been a trying week. One shopkeeper on one of my beats, that I have become friends with died suddenly on Saturday, muppets have been playing out on the roads all week, had a visit to a police station to report one particular person and had a complaint made against me (when the footage is viewed, it is totally unfounded), so its nice to get thumbs up from car people biggrin

That's all well and good, but it doesn't explain the numbers that get off on appeal though..... biggrin

She spoke up for herself effectively to show that generalisations are just that, and don't encompass the whole. She appears to be a good egg, but as you are implying the industry as a whole certainly carries a bad smell with it.

Soft local authorities basically, some just roll over and allow appeals for all sorts of strange reasons. And ones that don't maintain signs and lines, so when someone challenges a PCN, they suddenly say 'oh look, that line needs repainting, stop issuing and we will add it to the list of lines that may get re-done sometimes in the next 2 years'. We can only work with what the authorities give us.

We can issue slam dunk tickets and then hear it gets overturned, leaving us scratching our heads as to why, I've known tickets get overturned when the motorist lies and they don't even check the evidence.
