I'm not, I had never heard the term 'Rat' used in that meaning before.
Blaming other people for your own ignorance isn't going help.Disastrous said:
I've not heard of rat in that context before either I'm afraid.
Come to that, I don't even understand how 'Hampshire' becomes 'Hants' when there isn't even a T in it so the whole thing makes zero sense to me!
From the council's web site....Come to that, I don't even understand how 'Hampshire' becomes 'Hants' when there isn't even a T in it so the whole thing makes zero sense to me!
Why is Hampshire sometimes called Hants?
"Hampshire" is often abbreviated in written form to "Hants" and which sometimes gives rise to puzzlement. The abbreviated form is derived from the Old English Hantum plus Scir (meaning a district governed from the settlement now known as Southampton) and the Anglo-Saxons called it Hamtunschire. At the time of the Domesday Book (1086) this was compressed to Hantescire.

'I hope you die so I get the overtime' would seem to lack compassion and possibly not be the optimal phrase to use when seeking to encourage a change in attitude and conduct.
'I hope you die so I get the overtime'
It seems a bit personal?
Shouldn't the roadside 'words of advice' be about the conduct of the rider rather than personalising it?
The officer was having a bad day or the riding witnessed was of such poor standard that the officer allowed their emotions to influence the conversation?
Hopefully the 'I hope you die' comment was followed by something more constructive?
'I hope you die' doesn't really cover the possibility that motorcyclists can kill others besides themselves or their pillions.

Can we have the original video so we can judge for ourselves?
There's no mention of an original video anywhere. This is the word of some people on social media, they claim he said "I hope you die so I get the overtime" and posted a photo of the guy.
OP is suggesting that the officer's force might pull his body cam footage to check if the accusations are correct.

Any more clarification as the picture I'm getting is biker rides poorly, pulled by 'rat' robust words of advice given, biker cries on FB - that it?
Traffic officers were affectionately known as Black Rats for years and displayed the Rat badge in their rear screensAny more clarification as the picture I'm getting is biker rides poorly, pulled by 'rat' robust words of advice given, biker cries on FB - that it?
I think whether you know or understand what a Rat is, and why OP might have used that expression, OP ought to have had the brains not to post with that particular thread title. They clearly knew that there is a PHer using the name HantsRat, and felt the need to clarify that the Hants Rat of the thread title was not necessarily the same person in the first line of that post, so why do it in the first place? It's nothing more than clickbait for a bit of a non-story.

What a superb fact, thank you! Is this common knowledge I have somehow missed?

Thanks. I never knew that.
Thank Google, not me. I just copy and pasted but was also intrigued having lived in Hampshire all my life i didnt know, so I very much doubt it's common knowledge. But I did know a black rat was a traffic policemen term.
Meanwhile back handing out bouquets to the lads in white caps- lots of years ago, I worked in the Smoke, when at dawn, it could be. So i bought a a driving lamp and a fog light ( to mount under bumper. ) But where- in my ignorance ,having lived most of my life next to a police station, I thought- why not ask the experts for advice. A traffic cop. Possibly he was surprised to see a young bloke (I was at 20+ a PH), but he was really helpful in placement, and many the times I was on my way to work in London Smog, and another time on the A66 in heavy snow I silently praised him. So PC, if you're still with us , posting on here as another PHer- I welcomed your advice. (Memo to traffic branch- education beats prosecution ,anytime).
