Don't airsoft guns have to be clearly marked with luminous parts?

if you walked around with either of those in public you'd cause chaos.
At the risk of going O/T this is how I understand it (I used to own several airsoft 'weapons' from single shot spring all the way to full auto electric, sold them years ago as well as (also now sold) an air rifle).

Yes and no, this is why the VCR bill is typical of a ridiculous and ill thought out piece of legislation.

If you or I wanted to buy an airsoft 'weapon' now then yes it has to be primarily a luminous colour to identify it as a 'toy' However, there are two ways which you can own them without luminous colours.
1) Grandfather rights, if you owned it before the VCR bill then you don't have to (or didn't) hand it in or paint it a silly colour.
2) Be an active part of a reenactment society; most airsoft clubs became reenactment societies or clubs to allow their members to get around the legislation.

Though I can still go out and buy an air pistol with up to 6lb/ft (more than six times that of any of the airsoft guns that I owned) of muzzle energy that looks like an exact replica of a real pistol.

Yes it would cause chaos taking those out in public, its why the laws for carrying replicas are the same as carrying real ones in a public place; securely bagged or boxed and a legitimate reason for doing so.

I am free to be corrected if the laws have been amended since I last owned one smile
Some of my toys.. The AK is 450fps with a 0.25g bb

Also some 'big' quadcopters are still super lightweight, and unlikely to cause much risk or damage. Again, responsible use should always prevail. But that hardly means it's the same risk as running about with an assault rifle!
I'd say there is significantly more risk of injury to the public from using a drone the way OPs neighbour is than using or carrying a rifle lawfully in the UK.

The authorities do show interest in reports of misuse of drones - someone I know through a hobby bought an expensive hobby level drone and promptly posted stills and video of the him flying it over his house and way outside of line of site on FB.

Not sure if it was neighbours or FB warriors that reported him, but he got a visit reminding him of the rules with threats over repeat reports. He was well aware he was using it outside the rules - he made a point of highlighting the altitude he was flying at!

If you know who it is go and have a chat with them?
This.

But for neighbourly relations, maybe have a quiet word with him, make him aware of the CAA regulations and ask him to play with his toy elsewhere.

Array of guns, some with extra camo.
Some sort of military-esque binoculars.
Photobucket account "exitwounds308".

OP, the correct course of action is not military.Just talk to the fella. You can even do the semi coward and tell him that he's pissing other people off (not you), and you don't want the miserable buggers shopping him if you must.
Or use a robot with a rake. Just don't do it whilst wearing NATO issue pants.

But you said about the requirements and insurance to fly an RC plane. This simply isn't true. There are no requirement to fly one.

Yes, most/some/all clubs require you to have some kind of insurance. But as you said, some will include it in their membership... hardly a chore. Or the BMFA, which while run like a 1920's organisation, isn't exactly expensive.

The key thing is, not all RC planes have 6 foot wing spans these days....

In fact it's not even all that recent. Plenty of micro or park flyer foam aircraft to choose from.

Perfectly good flyer in a park, or even a large garden. No regs at all and insurance is optional.

No I did not, somebody else may have but I didn't. I suggested it was sensible to do so I didn't say it was mandatory.

Park flyers have come a long way in the past decade and a half, though if I were to get back in to RC flying I'd want the 6ft+ wingspan spitfire smile

Its exitwound308 which was my Firefight Scotland. Section 8, UKAN, UK Airsofters, UKARA, Arnie's Airsoft callsign when I was a player between 2001 and 2006. Still got all my (real) Vietnam loadout, hardware etc as seen as you've no doubt enjoyed trolling the Photobucket account.
I made a shed load of money back then buying US VN OD from Flip in Glasgow, and fairs etc and selling it on for a 4-500% mark up. Going to do that again when I retire in a years time..
The 'binoculars' is in fact a dummy US military IR emergency lamp. Dummy, as it hold lots of spare bb rounds. I used to carry two canteens, one with spare ammo, one with water and 4x 600 round mags for the AK and a short mag full of metallised 0.43g bb's for sniping, hence the 450fps, but I had to stop using it as it could do that on full auto too (500 limit for semi/single shot). The battery was 8.4, but I had an extra 2.4 on the stock which put the rpm up to about 1000. Used about 5k rounds in a days gaming..
The way we tested the fps back then before we had a chrono, was to use a Coke tin.
In one side, ok
Right on through, ok
Through the bottom side, not good,
Through the top side, bad!!
I could easily do the top and when a chrono appeared it measured at 455fps.

I really, really, miss those days, great guys and great fun.. Check out Section 8 on Fb..

Sorry, but I still don't get it, but I'll make a guess..

Is it the military kit and weaponry that's upsetting? Buying and selling that kit paid for the Corvette in my profile and built a conservatory on my house. Airsoft is a bit like paintball its just a game and a really excellent game without any vices.

A lot of the people were in fact computer gamers who just wanted to get out from the chair and get a bit of exercise whilst still enjoying the same fun with their buddies. As the weaponry was technically demanding, a lot of guys and young 'uns learned excellent technical/electronic skills and also respect for others. All good..

On any day's gaming, we had a mix of..

2nd Battle Group
Rolling Thunder
TA,
retired military,
police and other emergency services types,
doctors, nurses etc.
stunt guys and their coordinater from STV (River City/Taggart),
tax inspectors from Centre 1,
..and a couple of well known (Stop the War) Scottish politicians (who for their career sake should know better!!)

Not upsetting. Just a target for some mild pisstaking, to be fair aimed more at the 4x4 rescue guys who think they're one behind the SAS in terms of national importance, that sort of thing.

Read it, it's worth a giggle. Don't take it personally smile

Ta.
Sorry.. United States Olive Drab Vietnam Fatigues.

I would buy a used set (shirt/trousers) for about £8 and resell it on for around £60-£70.

After Saving Private Ryan came out everyone wanted WW2 US kit and the prices went mad, so I bought the really cheap Vietnam OD, ARVN, ERDL (camo) kit and within a few years the prices started to climb as re-enacting and Airsoft really took off.. I have a helmet and Mitchell camo cover that was used in the film Full Metal Jacket, as filmed at the old London Gasworks (now the O2 Dome). Cost me a fiver, now around £300..

Reviving an oldish thread

I have just bought a drone mainly for aerial photo's of landscapes etc, it gets delivered tomorrow. I have done more research into the legalities etc than I did for my driving test.

I aim to be a responsible user and not ps off the neighbours etc. Each flight will be notified to NATS using their app, and the drone will be geo fenced.
