As this has been bumped, I should add, my wife got 2 x fines from Germany, as the vehicle is a lease car, the lease company pay it, and you are left with no option other than to accept the charge.

word of caution, I came home last night to a French speeding fine. I will take the pain and pay up but what does worry me is that the offence was from 25th August 2018!

I've been to The Alps and back since then so can't be certain there aren't more on their way......

I popped over for weekends skiing and rented a car from Swiss Avis.

Pulled over just before Albertville, for 169kph in a 130.

Very nice policeman, breathalysed me (0.0 was the reading), took my address etc from my driving licence and told me I would be getting a €90 fine in the post in the next 20-25 days.

All seems very reasonable to me, especially as it had taken him 15km to catch me up in his Berlingo.

i did explain that the Opel Corsa was so slow that it had taken me over 50km to get up to that speed...he even gave a wry smile in acknowledgement of how crap that car was.

Really??? Very unusual, I've been stopped twice in France and both times they wanted the money there and then. it was 5+ years ago, so maybe something has changed

Were you in a hire car or your own in relation to the fine from 2018?

My car that I have owned for more than 10 years. I haven't moved either so no idea why it has taken them so long to find me.

Was the notice in English or French? Any chance you could post up a picture (anonymised of course)?

There's a picture of a French speeding fine on the Le Mans section on here.

Hi there, I have tried to upload but that would appear to be beyond me. Everything is in English.A Violation notice, A Payment Notice and an Exemption Request Form.

A friend had also just received a violation notice (actually three) from a trip in August.

The violation notice date is given as 27/02/2019.

Looking at the date of the offences, all on the 25/08/2019 I wonder if he may have more on the way.

Hmm, weird and worrying. My offence was also 25th August and Notice date 27th Feb 2019! I hope I don't get any post for the next few days.

To answer the original question, you cannot get points on a UK licence from a driving offence in France. You may be sent a penalty notice asking for money, but there is no way this can be collected in the UK.
The only risk is if you re-visit France, commit an offence for which you are stopped and les Flics decide to run your driver details or car details and even then they would need to establish that it was you who committed an earlier offence and failed to reply to their letters.

There'll now probably be a pause in service from France - the last three times I've driven across France, the gilets jaunes had obligingly trashed every camera I saw, and I do mean every one I saw from Basel to Calais and return.

Only had one, in my own car. Debated paying it but decided being 'guilt-free' the next time I travelled was worth the fee. Bit galling if you're in a hire car and get charged another €32+ on top for 'admin fees'.

G/F got three on one journey last year - in a hire car. Quite unhappy.

My other half has also just got a fine of 45 Euros for 114 in a 110 limit. They must be having a crack down.

Offence was in September I believe.
2.5mph over the limit.

Harsh.

The speed quoted is after 10% allowance up to 100kph and 10 kph for speeds over 100kph

This.
The staff at Nantes have nothing to do so they are having a clear up.
