Termination in a regulated HP agreement is a right, they can't prevent him from doing so. Make sure the car meets the "Reasonable condition" criteria as you can face a significant bill for returning a shed.
Whilst a VT won't directly affect his credit "score" some lenders look unfavorably upon a VT. If he was VT'ing one before getting the other I'd always advise to have the finance in place before concluding the VT. Just in case. Here that's not an issue.
