I didn't think you were being cynical, and my post was not in anyway meant as a criticism of your suggestion.
When the haulage Co. aren't responsible for the life endangering loose wheel, their lack of response to the Email is surprising. Perhaps they forwarded the Email on to the correct person(s) with that Co.
The driver of the Polo sounds like a cool headed person. I would have thought anybody getting out of that and being outside of the car would still be in shock for quite a while after and therefore possibly in need of some support.
