Having recently been through this situation I would advise speaking to your insurer as when I told them the updated value of mine they cancelled my policy as it put it into a price bracket they don't insure so I had a week to get an agreed value policy sorted.

My insurance broker, offers AV. I have had it previously, it's no extra, however he suggested it is something often oversold.

If you have good insurance whey will pay a fair price for the vehicle. He advised AV is really designed for one off, or very special cars that the market is unable to put a comparable price on.

I know we're in a bubble but I'm also very curious to know what car's value has increased 50-100% in just the last 6 months?

Well at least you've got a sense of humour!

Advertise your own car at 50% more than you paid for it and let us know the response.

I can't believe I'm typing this but....you have to feel sorry for the insurance companies sometimes.

They have to convince Mr Punter that the fact that "We Saw You Coming Modern Classics Ltd" are advertising a car similar to his for an insane sum doesn't mean he can expect the same amount for his written of classic.

I picked the most expensive XJR currently for sale. Last year a 2006 model with 25, 000 on the clock was circa £18,000. Compare that to the example I’ve showed. If you drop down to the lower sector of the market, since last November, when I bought mine, prices have risen between 30% to 100%. And they do disappear from the dealers at the higher price. Mine cost £6,000. To replace now, same year and mileage, it’s £8000 to £10,000.

I walk for pleasure with the dog. I like driving the car, so I'll keep it thanks.

Advertise yours now for £6000. See how many people beat a path to your door. This whole thread has been based on disinformation.

Pointless reply. I want to keep the car. If it should ever become a total loss, it'll cost me more to replace. I just wanted to know if the insurance would cover it. That was the question I was asking.

Identical car, but lower mileage, the nearest on PH at the moment. £11,900

Identical car, similar mileage, the nearest on Autotrader at the moment £7,600

Prices are a bit of a lottery on these cars now

A few years back I was paid out more than I had paid for the car 10 months earlier when it was stolen. Admiral insurance, BMW e60 545i. Prices had strengthened a little so I got circa 2k more than I had paid previously. I had to fight for it though...
