Moped Mugger Defence System

With this Moped mugging phenomenon now reaching new heights... what defence systems can we devise for our vehicles?

Staying broadly within the law...

Drive a Volvo and doors automatically lock when start moving so that helps, I'm sure other vehicles have the same safety system.

Though if I feel I'm in danger, I'm driving full throttle into the little scumbags and keeping going until I feel the danger has passed. I'd deal with any consequences later.

Short of that I usually have a Great Dane German Shepherd cross in the car with me who has a distinct dislike of young lads.... might make a tasty snack for him.

anti hijack door locking, and it get quite dark around here so best keep a torch in the car.

In my neck of the woods for a good few months in around 2012 there were dozens of attempted car jackings. On a few occasions the victims were dragged along the road for several metres.

I thought it wise I keep my antique French WW1 bayonet in the door card to 'cut myself free' in the event I was a victim



The plod were useless and on one occasion they let a car jacker leave the scene despite him being tackled by a member of the public and held down until they arrived.

Carrying any object with the intention to inflict harm, whether in defence or otherwise, I believe will land you in a rather large spot of bother if your truth was to come out. As is the rediculousness of UK self defence/offensive weapon law.

So the breaker bar sitting behind my passenger seat sits there for an entirely unrelated reason.

There's a liquid solution here....thinking smart water or that indelible ink...rigged to a windscreen washer bottle and pump..discretely sprayed from the door mirror...

Keep one of the small cans of WD40 in your door pocket with the supplied straw attached but cut right down. Aim for eyes, if they've got a visor down it'll make their vision blurry and probably make them ps off or give you a chance to escape. One bonus side effect is that their visor will have the smoothest action in east London.

Couple of flaws with a Maglite for automotive use... If you sit them on their head (when you need both hands free for car repair purposes), you lose all the light.

I was trying to clean some crud out of a recess with WD40 and, of course, some blew back into my eye. It actually felt rather cool and refreshing.

How about a device built into the driver side door that, when discretely triggered, sends a directed EMF pulse that fries the moped electronics? Moped stalls, muggers jump off and run away.

Upgrade your window motor so when they put an arm in the window slams shut, taking their arm with it!

Awareness of surroundings, leaving suitable gaps when stationary in case you need to 'move off' in a hurry

that's the sensible options..

not so sensible would be having one of these to hand for squirting in the eyes...



Not sure how much a defense 'it must have rolled out my shopping bag' would be when questioned though...

Yes, you cannot arm yourself before the event for self-defence purposes in the UK. The UK state really does not want its citizens wanding around armed, so you can expect to be vigourously prosecuted if you carry an object for the purpose of it being used as a weapon. If you were to have say a machette in your car and were attacked and pulled it out, then you can expect to be vigourously questioned about it. Even if you say, well it is for my farm, then expect an examination about if you were on the way to or from your farm at the time or if you had just been driving around for months with it in your car.

You can if attacked use an object which comes to hand because it just happened to be there as a weapon, so long as it is reasonablle under the circumstances.

Its quite a sorry state of affairs when moped gangs can operate with almost no concern about getting caught.
