I'm the same with drink, doesn't really affect me so I just drive.
But it does affect you.. Could you pass a US style field sobriety test?

If you've just worked 48 hours straight and then try a 8 hour drive, would you be in a fit state?

The op didn't ask about legalities of different substances.. Stop being difficult for the sake of being difficult.
I suspect a bit of irony in his post, one of my Scaffolders lives on Tremadol, and has done for years, he's a zombie between shifts. He refuses to drive.

You could still fall foul if your driving attracts attention for what ever reason. Some cops are trained to conduct field impairement tests which are similar to the 'touch your nose' tests seen on US cop shows. If a cop conducts a test and feels you may be impaired by a any drug/alcohol you can be arrested for driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. Prescription drugs included. You'll then be taken to a police station and another test will be carried out by a Doc or nurse (sometimes a trained HCA) and if they feel your condition may be as a result of some drug, you'll be required to provide a sample of blood. Failure to provide has obvious consequences.

You don't need to be over any limits to be charged/summonsed for unfit.

Go easy mate, just make sure you feel as good as possible before you drive.

If you are in an accident/taken to hospital, the reporting police officer will ask for a sample of blood to run tests.

When I made friends with a lamppost and a tree after high siding my bike, officer came down to hospital and asked to have a force doctor take a blood sample.

This is where they would test everything in your system. I did say something about the huge dose of ketamine I had at the road side before being ambulanced but apparently they know medical vs street / time periods.
There's a simple calculation using result and body weight. Used routinely in forensics, it can pinpoint when a drug/drink was consumed within about a 10 minute window of error.

I take co codamol daily for back and knee problems and never had a problem .
I also suffer from gallstones and when really having problems it usually involves paramedics and morphine ,then I will not drive for 72 hrs ,not that I have had a reaction but it's not worth the risk .

So do I, though not quite daily however it's my prescription drugs that cause me the most problems; three of them have the same side effect: may cause drowiness. As a result, when I'm driving any distance, I often have to take regular breaks, perhaps even a half hour doze followed by a 15 minute 'come to' period and a strong coffee, before I feel that I'm safe to continue. A journey that once took three hours can now take up to four...

I'm on co-codamol at the moment, broken ribs sting...

Pharmacist said they may cause inattention or similar so don't drive or operate stuff it you feel so affected. As it happens, no sign of that at all - so i'd be happy driving if I could get in the fking car without squealing like a deflating balloon. Hah.
