Good points off again - I have spoken to a few police officers in the control room, it seems to be quite a stressful job (on times) which involves a lot of quick thinking (on times!) I think this suits me as I am not a great one for protracted enquiries.....I suppose the stress is not the same stress that may involve personal injury, but the potential that the officers that are going to that or those particular jobs that you are sending them to, may suffer injury as a result of your decision. I suppose that is worse in a way as a wrong decision could put other peoples lives at risk. Must admit, there are some comms ops that I wouldn't listen to if they were stood in front of me, and others that I would trust implicitly. Experience on the street definately counts, and despite what people say, local knowledge does as well.

I rang the local MOD plod office in abbey wood earlier, funny old thing but even they said not to join.....grass is always greener scenario

I reckon decision is made really. Thanks for all the pointers folks, will let you know how things pan out.

Guess I need to get a punchbag now.

hmmm, nightmare, I'll have to work with lots of young girlies.

Well why didn't you say that before?!?!? God, there we were, scratching our chins as to the best thing for you, and the answer was staring us in the chest...sorry, face!

I thought that was entirely normal for most of the fairer sex, most of the time?

How about driver training? There are planty of companies that offer advanced driver training and I'm sure thye's value an experienced Police driver.

I've been going with a group of mates to Germany for BMW Driver Training in Germany and Austria for the last few years. Their Chief Instructor is a former German traffic cop.

Can't do driver training in the Police as I am not currently in traffic......Hadn't thought about outside the police though, maybe something to mull over. I have completed all the driving courses, and an evasive driving course when in N.I. All helps I suppose....

Can't see me teaching 17yr olds in micras

GO ON SON, GIVE IT SOME, TIME FOR A J TURN
The German ex-Police instructor's idea of a fun trick on the last afternoon of our first course was to teach us J turns.

Or.........my cunning plan is maybe to transfer into the MOD police. I do have a military background, have good knowledge of firearms, and don't mind service life....The downsides are they can post me anywhere in the country, which would be a shame as my kids are doing well here in brizzle. I know I would pass the fitness tests, not being big headed but I am quite fit. But would they have access to my medical records I wonder. And what did the doc put in there, I specifically asked him to put as little as possible as I can manage my dodgy body.

I think a fair few of the Mod plod jobs can be pretty boring, though. I used to work at Farnborough, and their day seemed to be cruising round the perimeter road all day long, with the odd bit of excitement when they chased one of us across the field to have a go at us for speeding.

It'd be worth your checking what the average sort of posting is, I think, as one like that would likely bore you to tears.
