Can you say the make. We're so old and decrepit than we can't turn a mattress but do need a new one. Thanks
I'm pretty sure it's a Sealy Posturepedic.

Turning the mattress is normal practice so I would not focus on that.
It is, but not weekly.

Have a Harrison bed and the turning process was a right pain when new, especially as it weighs a ton.
Saying that it is worth the grief as very comfy.

Turning & Spinning Your Mattress (Seasonal Turn Mattress)

Your mattress should be turned as frequently as possible, preferably once a week for the first 12 weeks as follows:

Week 1 Start with the label on the top of the mattress at the foot end.

Week 2 Spin the mattress through 180 degrees so the label is now on the top of the mattress under your pillow.

Week 3 Turn the mattress over completely so the label is now on the underside of the mattress at the pillow end.

Week 4 Spin the mattress through 180 degrees.

Week 5 Turn the mattress over completely so the label is on the top side of the mattress at the foot end (the original starting position).

Then repeat this full cycle.

Thereafter: Your mattress should be spun 180 degrees monthly and turned over every six months. WARMSIDE / COOLSIDE

After the initial twelve week period of turning/spinning, mattresses with Warm/Cool Sides (as indicated on the label) should be set with the appropriate seasonal side upwards. The mattress should be spun through 180 degrees monthly and turned over twice a year to coincide with the seasons.

There are quite a few options open to you, as we have read in this thread.

Complain on social media, take it back at your own expense, turn it over, try the one in the shop again, all these options sound sensible and logical, so which is the best option for you?

I think you should sleep on it.

We said forget the shops, and bought an Eve mattress by mail order on a 100 day no quibble trial.
It came in an oblong box about two feet by 18 inches square, and amused the grand children as it expanded into shape when I opened it.

Brilliant mattress, so comfortable yet firm enough to support my aged back.
Not cheap, but the quality is evident when you sleep on it, and in theory one sleeps for 1/3 of one's life....

It solves the problem with trying mattresses in shops.

All this for a mattress in a spare room that is going to get no use anyway.

This... OP is complaining that the mattress is way too hard and kicking up a stink and thats not the main bed??

To be honest, the visitors of my house get the beds that are there and I dont spend the same amount on them as my bed, I spend enough but dont care if they are too soft/firm/etc as everyone staying over is different, so as long as they dont feel the springs and its not lumpy then its good enough for everyone.

Regardless of spare bed related opinions, which are personal and all different, surely the main issue is that a) the OP seems to have been delivered something different to that ordered b) a problem seems to be being handled very badly by the company agent c) wider reports suggest that this is not an isolated incident of orders being incorrect and great difficulty in getting things resolved and finally d) this all related to a retailer previously known for and itself claiming to provide top class customer service.

It may seem rather incredulous making such a fuss over a mattress for a guest bedroom but a considerable amount of research was done and for it to turn up not as expected is rather annoying. Add to this the flip flopping and crappy CS further sours the situation. It was specifically chosen to cater to the needs of the person who will be the main user who suffers with back issues. Said person has no qualms agreeing that it is not a comfortable nights sleep.

Thats what I thought but with our new mattress with a foam/breathable layer I was told 'modern' mattresses don't require turning as they are designed to be used one side.

That's for the OP to decide, he thinks it is different, you nor I know.

There is evidence out there of the wrong things being delivered, eg customer ordered digital radio, received another model from that manufacturer's range, identifiably the wrong model, difficulty getting it sorted.

Just one report https://www.theguardian.com/money/blog/2015/sep/12...

Yup, we used to but lots from them. Ten plus years ago they would be the first stop for most things, these days very rarely. Better prices and, most importantly, CS, can be found elsewhere.

Harrison here too.

After the initial 12 weeks we continue to rotate monthly. We only flip it once a year as the filling has a Summer/Winter side.

Sticks.

I've had a similar experience OP. After some reading up and visiting shops, I bought a JL medium 6000 pocket sprung. When it arrived it was way firmer than the one I'd tried, so much so that I could only sleep on it with a thick quilted topper.

So I went back to the shop, tried the one I'd bought, and the (different) assistant told me it can take 13 weeks to settle so I needed to give it time, but nothing was said about turning. The Harrison Gold I'd had before was turned seasonally.

So I waited and it was still no good. I went back to the shop and they sent a rep from the manufacturer, Harrison's, who tried it, said it wasn't any good and reported back to JL. They offered me a refund and said they'd collect the mattress when I'd arranged for delivery of a new one. Overall JL lived up to its reputation imho.

I subsequently bought another Harrison from a local dealer and there was no mention of weekly turning until it was delivered. I doubt that's an accident and I'm not very happy about it as I'd have been put off if I'd known.

Did you pay by credit card?

I bought a new bed from ebay over 10 years ago. It had an "orthopaedic" mattress option for an extra £30. Never had to turn it over, indeed the bottom had a non-slip thingy so it would be stupid.

I had a double bed before that and chronic back pain. This "small double" with the harder mattress and a couple of pullout drawers to stuff bedding and st in was the business for about £250 all in. The delivery driver told me it's exactly the same st that Dreamland and Bensons punt out for £1000's on the never never.

I don't have a problem sleeping with my partner, and indeed the dogs take the other space too.

The main thing is I haven't had any back problems in over a decade. That really was a nightmare and when something works, why change it?

However, the springs are now coming through - I snipped the end of one off with some wire cutters. The base bed is still ok, I can just buy a new mattress for about £150. But a stty old duvet cover is enough for now.

What the fk is it with these people buying £1500 mattresses for guest bedrooms?
