Something went wrong with my last post.
Kudos to you Gavia. I'm still not sure why I got called out or caught your attention but I'm happy to provide any information you want or need.
I'd be happy give them their money back and for you to come and collect. I'd even let you have it for the £325 it was originally listed for Or you can step up with the £400 and I'll give £300 to my daughter and donate the £100 to cancer research.
The ad was placed in a closed group on Facebook so I'll post a screen shot. I also have the messenger conversation between myself and the buyer which I can send you.
Car registration is Y767DFX as per the advert.
Let me know if you want any other info.
How can anyone argue about that for £300? Even if it was a total POS, for that money you'd just take it on the chin rather than humiliate yourself by asking for the money back.Kudos to you Gavia. Driving a car with no equipment or power steering must be quite liberating !

Looks like an ideal learner/first car, would teach a lot about control/feel.Driving a car with no equipment or power steering must be quite liberating !
It's a £300 car and sounds like it should be well worth that, presume petrol, if diesel, they could sell it for more.
But you are right about the power steering. My missus had a 1.5 diesel one of these from 2000 when it was quite new, bought it from her mate at work. It did about 70mpg, but was gutless...fair enough. BUT, the steering was awful. And it wasn't so much the lack of power assistance, but for skinny tyres, the self centering force on the steering wheel was utterly ridiculous! . It really is a trait with these 106s. BUt it is a sign of the times, remember, back in the day, these were pretty much the largest selling small car in Britain at one point in the about 1998/99.
As for the situation, tell them sorry, they all do that sir and that she will get used to it. Cos she will.

and I'll do a bit of due diligence at my end. I might ask for another few bits just to satisfy my curiosity, but I'm good for the money and a few emails will have this sorted by the end of next week without a problem. Send it via PM if you'd prefer.
And there is Gavia's out, he will find something not quite right. I call bullst on this, you haven't been on PH long enough Nobody is that stupid that they want to travel all the way to Cornwall, buy a car for £400 and sell it to Funky for £200.
Now prove me wrong.
Think this should work for you OP, £400 heading your way plus one idiot.
Lol. It has gone a little quiet hasn't it.
At the end of the day my daughter is happy to have the £300.
I'm the one getting the grief from the buyer and I'm actually quite a nice guy. Not 'boo hoo your not happy, here let me roll over and give you your money back' nice but generally good and honest. We all work hard for our money and £300 to my daughter pays for a few tanks of fuel to get to and from work.
Gavia, how about you send the buyer the money in any way convenient then drop a ton in a charity box. (Of course we will need proof of this! ??)

Wasn't that a non-turbo diesel? Like the 306 1.9 XRD, utterly gutless.
Yes, non turbo d. Honestly, she had it a year and only filled it up about 4 times! It was one of them "ltd" editions, leccy windows, garish interior! Really good on fuel, but awful to drive. The steering was utterly terrible and this was back in the day when lots of cars didn't have PAS. It was the ridiculously heavy self centering effect, like the geometry was all wrong. Me not understanding what the call out was all about. Gavia?...Gavia?
Anyway, personally for a 16 year old £300 car, I think they've done well. It really isn't your responsibility to tell them what it hasn't got. The usual thing to do when buying a car is have a look online at the model history and see what they do and don't come with, you can then ask pertinent questions when viewing.
I'll also say that kids are spoilt these days, I'm not even sure power steering had been invented when I got my first car.
Politely tell them that the car is theirs, and you're sorry it hasn't met their expectations, but you were very honest at the time of sale, you were unaware of any faults, and the car was sold as seen.
If that doesn't sit comfortably with you, give them their money back.
