Question - how are drivers that are caught with no valid insurance actually prevented from reoffending ? Can their car be removed for example ?

Some forces allow you to seize the vehicle. But if they continue to drive after you have delt with them then they can be arrested.

Ahhh Henry. Message from Min. Put your head on the breadboard and use your loaf.......Goonish shriek.

On 7th April, 2005 The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 received Royal Assent.

Within this Act at Section 131 is the power for Bib on coming across no Insurance case, in addition to the offence itself:

Seize and remove the vehicle to pound.
Enter ANY premises to remove. Dwelling house no but Garage at the side yes.
Power to seize remains valid for 24 hours if driver fails to stop.
Power to make regs re procedures re release and payment of storage charges.

So far have been unable to ascertain commencement date of this particular section but do understand that in pilot schemes at various sites through the country similar power has been used.

NY
Used successfully for passed year and it clears up an awful lot of those motors you want off the streets!

Also great way of hurtingthe burglar, car thief etc - seeing as the courts dont do it

It seems to be section 152 of the SOCPB for anyone interested:
