I believe after 6 years a caution for shoplifting would be filtered from an enhanced DBS check.

However as said I would declare the caution. I had a similar thing from when I was 18 and when I went for SC clearance with the MOD I had to declare. Its a a truth and trust check as much as anything else.

I have also had a DBS check for a school and it was clean.

However his finger prints and DNA will be kept on PNC forever.

He should be ok.

What about if you were mistakenly arrested and obviously not charged or cautioned. Are they required to destroy DNA & finger prints then?

No.

I think if you are "wrongfully" arrested then you can apply but not under normal circumstances.

Wrongful doesn't just mean you were innocent either!

Prints are kept indefinitely and aren't destroyed under any time limits
They shouldn't be unless the offence/offender meet certain criteria.
