Why not fly lots of flags at the front of your house?

Probably fed up with the sound of kids screaming in the garden, and would rather listen to his trimmer.
Probably didn't read the thread and would rather to have a dig at the OP.

Brummie- careful with the drone- lots of regs coming in about drones being used in residential places.
Many owners of recreational drones don't have a clue that Regulations already exist (w.e.f 25th August 2016).

It's just a matter of time before the government makes registration compulsory owing to the antics of the irresponsible few.

Devil's advocate here OP: how noisy are your kids?

We had a nightmare neighbour next to us, single mum, mental health issues ("adult ADHD", if such a thing exists) - she used to just push her two kids out in the garden all day long, where they would bounce on a trampoline, SCREAMING AND SCREAMING for hours on end. It got to the point where we could barely watch TV inside. Fortunately, after many incidents, the final one of which saw her arrested, her father paying the rent moved her out and she became someone else's problem.

She was replaced by a family with three boys under 10. They also have a bloody trampoline BUT ... they play on it outside without making much noise, they are polite, respectful and dare I say it, are a joy to have as neighbours. I was one of three kids myself, and whilst we got boistrous from time to time, my Dad always told us off if we were making enough noise that might disturb the neighbours.

Are you doing the same, or are your kids being too loud? I know a fellow PHer (also a father of young kids) who lives in a wonderful house in a great neighbourhood but wants to move because of the constant weekend noise from his neighbour's very noisy kids.

Some people have this view, "they're kids, they make a noise, deal with it" .... others see things completely differently.

Obviously if your kids don't make a lot of noise and this bloke is being a tool for the sake of it he needs the Frozen Sausage Police round there pronto.

I wonder how many of the people on here replying with, "it's your fault for having noisy children" also have, "excellent attention to detail" as a quality listed on their CV?

I'm not a massively confrontational person but when someone is clearly being a dick to that extent I cant fathom how you wouldn't confront the issue with him in a friendly and polite manner. The other solution is to kill him with kindness and insist he comes round for a beer and a burger, if he is as miserable as he sounds an unexpected yet friendly gesture will probably take him by complete surprise. When people are mates, they tend to see past peoples differences/issues far more easily. If he knocks it all back, its a better feeling inside knowing that you have been the bigger man.

Amazing isn't it? Even after pointing it out a couple of times I'm sure there will be another few numpties blaming his kids.

You know, I've been thinking that very thing. The guy has a Personality Disorder, probably could be defined as an Antisocial Personality Disorder. There is a page about it on the NHS website, plus loads of other places. My son and his wife are both NHS mental health nurses specialising in CBT and most of the people they work with have less problems than this, in my very unprofessional opinion.

He's not in a good place and needs some help. The trouble is that access to help needs to come via his GP and people like this are loathe to present on their own initiative. I wonder if he has any relatives the OP might approach. It would be a bit more constructive than some of the "remedies" suggested on this thread.

CBT involves the use of no drugs at all. That's the whole point.

Your post is very informative though, and I will be sure to mention it to my son and his wife, and through them all the other professionals working in CBT in Essex.

I made no mention of CBT, you did, post your own diagnosis of a nonsense personality disorder based on what a 3rd party has written in a forum. I outlined that the basis of actual diagnosis by medical professionals is the dsm , which in turn you can read up on how rubbish like anti social personality disorders get added and who benefits.

I extended that by saying kids get prescribed stuff based on it and it frightens me. This isnt in reference to the OPs old timer neighbour, or CBT, which i made no reference to.

Ive undergone CBT. its an interesting process, not massively successful in my own case. As for the snidey remark about letting all the extended health professionals in essex know, do with the information as you will. Having had a few conversations with mental health professionals not many of them seem all that aware of the origins or process that the dsm is put through yearly.

Cheers for the thoughtful reply though.

In my experience many 'professionals' have not got much of an idea of the processes behind recommended treatments in many areas, not just mental health.

MD, in deciding whether personality disorders are 'rubbish' or 'nonsense' I would rather listen to the point of view of the professionals than that of a journalist and author, who from what I understand is something of a self appointed expert in the field.

Any element of 'snide' in my answer is best directed at Ronson, not at you, and if you have taken it that way I can only apologise.

Get your neighbours to buy a pair of massive speakers, preferably a real stty and cheap set that distort badly at high volume.

Download a really annoying song like Crazy Frog or Barbie Girl.

Place speakers against the adjoining wall facing towards neighbour.

Turn on full volume and set to auto repeat.

Everyone goes to work/school.

You will come home to either a gibbering wreck or the house burnt down but either way he'll be carted off.

Enjoy your garden once again.

My late father-in-law did similar to this many years ago to a neighbour who continually played loud music late into the night. After a couple of weeks of this and despite numerous complaints a more direct approach was needed. After his 'solution', he never heard a peep from them again!

I like this post - try to be nice and see if it all sorts its self out. Failing that either tell him in no uncertain terms to stop or go down the route of building a case against him.

I really like your path!

Have you thought about swapping the gravel for very light grey/white?

His totem poles are interesting pretty interesting as well actually.

Very unhealthy behaviour from the neighbour. Got to feel sorry for anyone holding on to that much anger.

I'm trying to figure out why the neighbour needs to get a bike licence. Upgrade the strimmer for something a bit better sounding?
