Hit and run low speed shunt
Discussion
Mrs justinio got home today after work and told me on her way home she was the victim of a hit and run.
She was sitting at a red light after coming off Jct 6 of M25 and a woman driving an Audi Q7 went into the back of her. It was slow enough not to cause any apparent damage on initial inspection, but I've not been put to have a look yet (it's raining!). The shunt was enough to throw wifes head forward and she said it made an almighty bang (the car not her head).
Wife gets out to inspect damage and exchange details. Q7 driver also gets out, inspects damage then goes back to her car. Wife thinks she is going to get her details, but instead Q7 pulls round wifes car and drives off.
I've checked on askmid and the Q7 is insured. What are the next steps?, BiB?, will they be bothered?

Failing to give details is an offense, damage or no damage. If they drove off like that, they deserve what's coming. It's obvious that you've got the VRN, that make life ps easy for the plod. Obviously, your missus would recognise the driver on an identity parade.
If they're so worried about fraudulent claims, they can take photos.
They have 24 hours to report it to the plod and not commit an offense. Definitely inform the plod. They'll wait until after the 24 hours, for sure.

Check for damage.
Don't be surprised if your wife has a stiff neck tomorrow - Mrs p was rear ended some years ago & it wasn't until the following morning that any physical symptoms were apparent. 6 months of physio followed.
Report to BiB.
Notify your insurance company.

The woman in the Q7 had far more important things to do than interact with riff raff like you wife. She should think her self lucky that she was hit by such a high end car and in future would be advised to check her mirrors more often for more important people, who are clearly more successful and get out of their way.

I had a van hit and run me on the M60 is slow moving traffic - I pulled in and he indicated to, but then drove away. The police were brilliant - I got put through to the roads policing dept, they checked the cameras but they didn't show much. They contacted the van driver and he admitted the bump. I got a letter stating his admission from the police and I got my car fixed through his insurance.
All of the above plus my old man was once rear ended at walking pace, thought nothing of it and accepted an apology from the other party - stupidly didnt take his reg no - and when he actually looked at the car properly he noticed a slightly wonky bumper as the rear crumple bits had done their magic causing a few hundred quids worth of damage
Good luck
Echo the above re BiB. I found myself in an identical situation as a uni student. My pokey fiat panda rear ended by a woman in a discovery, who farted about, said 'no damage, no damage' and fked off. Drove to uni, bit miffed. Car sounded weird. Long story short, the whiplash took a day to develop and was agony, and the car chassis had buckled. The whole rear end had kept its shape but when I opened the boot, I needed a crowbar - then it wouldn't shut. Car was written off.
A bang like that WILL have caused damage, even if the plastic covering to the bumper hasn't been cracked or chipped. The actual bumper is a shock absorbing device behind the plastic that people refer to as 'bumpers' and it's likely that will be damaged and need replacing. That can make the difference between life and death in the event of a serious rear end shunt.
Whiplash, PROPER whiplash, is nasty. The tissues become inflamed and can impinge on nerves, causing numbness, pain, tingling and in more serious cases a list of symptoms too long to list.
Even if you cannot see visible damage on the surface does not mean something unseen is damaged or buckled.
However, on a point of principle, if some stuck up bh or arrogant cocksocket shunted me up the chuffer dandy, I'd report them out of principle. (And spite).
I hope wifey is OK.

BiB have now been notified. She needs to pop into the local station with her documents.
Would it be best for her to notify her insurer or wait until (if) we find out who the Q7 insurers are and then go straight to them?
If she's driven off, I doubt she will notify her insurers. Do a MID search, identify her insurers and then contact the 3rd party department to chivvy things along. They will contact her to get her own version of events. Would it be best for her to notify her insurer or wait until (if) we find out who the Q7 insurers are and then go straight to them?

Notify your insurers, tell them the other party failed to provide details, give your insurance company the registration. They will trace the other insurance company from the registration, just like you have. That is their job not yours.Would it be best for her to notify her insurer or wait until (if) we find out who the Q7 insurers are and then go straight to them?
They will probably want the police incident number or what it is currently called.
