I fear that there's not much that I can do, but just in case someone with the relevant knowledge can advise me.

Transport for London has installed a pedestrian crossing close to my house. Apparently there was a consultation, but I never saw a letter. Nor did my neighbour, but I'm sure it wouldn't have made a difference.

Anyway, the beeping is really intrusive in my house. I've spoken with TFL who've said that they've turned it down to its minimum level but that's still enough to come straight through my double glazing and into my house. I'm still in contact with TFL, but am getting the impression that they don't want to take any more action.

I've tried searching online for examples of how residents have persuaded the authorities to help them elsewhere, and in the past, but have come up with nothing.

If anyone here has any specific knowledge on how to persuade them to help I'd be very grateful to them indeed. Many thanks in advance.

Try looking for the opening from which the sound emanates - underneath the control box perhaps - and bung it up with mastic. Just don't leave your thumbprint...

Try asking TfL for triple-glazing.

Get TfL to double glaze the crossing.

I looked back in PH for advice.

Appears you need to nuke it from orbit, this seems the only way to be sure.

Have a word with Kimmy baby.

I recently found out that most crossings have a little spinner on the bottom face of the button box that spins during the "Green Man" for deaf and blind people.

Next time you're crossing, have a feel smile

Or if you have no mastic try a frozen sausage

Threaten to sign the "support Uber" petition if they don't install triple glazing for you.

Surely the complaint should be to the council for noise nuisance?

Alternatively smack a wooden spike into the speaker (to avoid a risk of shock) until it stops working.

They can switch the sound off. Plenty of them are silent in residential areas.

Talk to your local councillor. They can help and represent you in such matters.

It's mostly for blind/partially sighted people. Deaf people can see the green man. wink

Thanks. Good to know that there are silent ones in residential areas.

Was talking to TFL again this morning. Rang the council after. Due a call back tomorrow, and will take things from there.

That may result in injury to a partially sighted person or child
