Hi Chaps

I passed my Local SCP van this morning and got a the usual "beep-beep" from my radar detector. The van and operator were equiped with a Mini Gatso (I know this as I have had a look before) the question is, if I was speeding, at what distance will the camera take a snap? I was about 150M away when I spotted him and I was travelling towards the van. I remember chatting to an operator some months back and he said that a Mini Gatso can be used to catch both directions of traffic flow.

If its a proper radar based minigatso then the range will be similar to a normal fixed scamera.
I have a question regarding these: How is the radar information coroborrated? Remember theres usually no lines on the road for these, unless its a DS2.

Cheers for that. I think I can answer your question. setting up a mini gatso is a bit of a pain in the tits, especially if its in a van. you need to level the camera to take into accound road camber and rake, then you use what is essentially a marker post. it's a red & white post used to validate the camera distance from the edge of its trigger zone. no idea how it works though. as for validating pictures, i think they super-impose the white lines back at scamra HQ using a computer program.

IIRC the mini gatso is only allowed to operate in rear facing mode ergo you would have to go past it for it to trigger. If they were using it in forward facing mode they do not have a case, and are outwardly scamming.
