Looking at this -

I am towing a caravan down the main street in my town - I get to a bit where there are cars parked either side of the road and there is no parking restrictions in force etc. I cant get my vehicle through as the caravan is too wide. I cant reverse.

So I just pull through and damage the parked cars ? I think not.

there is no excuse here or any valid reason for him to cause the damage he did. End off. No ifs no buts no arguments. 100% in the wrong.

highway code you proceed only if your way is clear and free from obstruction.
So what do you do?

You make up some impossible scenario involving parked cars and no restrictions to prove your point.

I think Star Trek came up with the idea first.

According to most people here, you can carry on and damage the cars , but only if you're a farmer , or perhaps if you have had sheep in the back for more than 8 hours , or if the parking is really inconsiderate , or you're having a bad day or some other such drivel used to justify it...

So impossible it could never happen....oh wait, it already did, just with a tractor and not a caravan....

You ask Jim to move all his cars before a Fire Engine comes along, and remind him, you can't do that in a town?

So what would happen if the 3.1459key house on wheels is sitting there waiting for the people to go to work when the fire brigade pulls up behind on there way to a fire?

I really-really hope that you don't own a valet parking company!!

(Although it WOULD explain your extreme apologist attitude)

Now imagine your home and place of work is at the end of this street and the blockages on the street are a regular occurrence, authorities informed, nothing done etc. Still in the wrong but potential mitigating factors. That's all anyone is saying - the situation is not an absolute, but I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

Oh and you'd be pretty brainless to try an get a caravan down a high street the width of a single country lane with cars parked either side unless you had to. But that's where your scenario differs, d'you see? He did, you didn't.

Try that in a caravan and you wont have a caravan left just a bent axle hopefully.
One less caravan on the road. Result.

That could be interpreted as you are encouraging people to park as aforesaid. I very much hope that isn't the case.

Quite revealing that you chose to comment only on the final sentence with a glib throwaway remark yet failed to confirm where you stand on the rest.
Likewise that you chose to snip my post in order to avoid having to answer my point about criticising without providing any practical solution/s to the underlying problem.

For what purpose? Are you delivering it in the course of your business or doing it for SD&P? If the latter you are comparing apples with pears.
Parked vehicles in such a location is not exactly out of the ordinary. Is the main street in your town a cul-de sac? Your analogy is weak..

In this case, if only we had effective police resources to get the censoredhead parkers' cars towed away. A long walk to the pound and a hefty recovery fee might concentrate a few minds.

You can interpret it as you wish - It's obvious where I stand on the parking - I've mentioned it a few (dozen) times on the thread already, but if you can't be bothered to read it...
