Why are you not allowed to help with the tyre? Is it a liability issue?
It's down to health and safety.
That is total horse st, if you don't have the mental capacity to change a wheel safely, you probably shouldn't even be driving.

Let's face it, it's just not your job to do it (don't know why you can't just say it), even though you have the perfect vehicle (could be very easy to carry some very basic tools) to help and let's be honest, most of you have ample experience.

Do you remember the head honcho being ‘moved on’ because he kept being caught kerb crawling?
Do you remember the temporary chef in Leeds who didn’t come in one Monday because he’d been arrested for killing and eating bits of his victim?
And do you remember the results of the trial in the West Midlands on the viability of the HATO function that, by the time the political-will factors had been applied the actual 13% increase in congestion during the trial had magically become a 13% decrease in congestion?
Before my time.

To be honest, if I could change them, I would, the powers that be have removed all tools from our vehicles to stop us from doing it. We're not even allowed to change our own tyres!

There's no fking hope is there? Soon you won't be allowed to drive your own vehicles, you'll have to pilot them remotely from your desk.

Is a Land Rover Discovery a necessary vehicle for your duties?

Yes, we use them for uprighting overturned vehicles and clearing all manner of vehicles from the carriageway. Plus we carry a lot of equipment.

I've read some stupid st during my time on the web, but that has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. What happens if one of your vehicles gets a puncture or some damage then - do you just leave it there and walk off up the hard shoulder? :P

An AA patrolman recently told me they had been stopped from washing their own vans as they wasn't allowed to use step ladders to clean the roof.

We phone for a tyre fitter and they come and replace the tyre.

It's all down to insurance liability.

And a fire extinguisher, are those still removed ?
Funny old world you can use one in the outstation but not out of the vehicle.

The week they took them out they had a bunch of the public helping push a car with an immobile woman inside away from another car that was just 'sparking'. But the extinguishers had been removed just in case.

Yeah because using a tow strap on a dog is better than a £1 lead to put on a dog, seen it done it and that's why I foooked off, the shocking incompetence of the management and procurement makes you want to hang your head in shame.
A 'great' job with great people but ran disgracefully.
