Update from the Youtube video:

"For anyone interested in what happened next, I made a complaint to the Met police.
The Met complaint team was very responsive and located the officer despite that I didn't ask for their name & warrant number etc..
The line manager of the officer contacted and offered me an apology, turns out the officer never actually put the report through as he was "not sure about the speeder" when he went back to the office, he later viewed this video confirmed that I was not speeding."

That's odd, he seemed quite sure at the time...
Good stuff!! Just goes to show how wrong they can be. I wonder how many people have been wrongly stitched up because they just 'accepted' that an officer is always right. If in doubt, CHALLENGE them to PROVE it.
Some police are chancers. Some police chancers use their position and/or uniform to help bolster their chances.

I realise it's an older thread...

But what I did when I had a Policeman make up my speed (80 in a 50)

I called and then wrote to the Chief Constable as I could demonstrate that given the distance and speeds claimed it could not have happened as he stated.

I was surprised when his response was "tell it to the Court"

I went to Court and asked for a Newton Hearing, they simply asked what speed I would agree to - I replied 60 and that was the charge put to the Magistrates. I was then given 5 points and at £300 fine (at the time a FPN was 3 points and £60)

No action was taken against the blatantly lying Policeman

Needless to say I don't hold the Police in the high regard I was taught when I was young.

just out of curiosity I seem to recall reading somewhere that modern cars do save various data either as part of the ECU history or the 'smart' key. If that is the case wouldn't it be easy to dis/prove?
Some do, some don't but the data isn't usually that easy to get at.

You can buy your own data logger for £100-£150 which will record position and speed very accurately 10 times a second, so I'd advise anyone concerned about being falsely accused of speeding to get one and put it in their car.

It can also be handy if you lend your car to someone and you're worried about where they went and what speeds they were doing.

5 points for 60 in a 50?

You might have had that for the 80.

That is the trouble if you go to court. The points and fine will always be more than a FPN if found guilty.
