Please contact us.....

says the letter received, via e-mail from an on old motorbike policy stating that they have received a claim from a third party for an accident in July 2015, have opened a claim in relation to it and have requested I contact them.

Bit of a strange one as it relates to an old motorbike, the date of the alleged accident is a Saturday and the bike is used solely for commuting Mon - Fri. I recall absolutely nothing happening to me on the bike over that summer. I called them up last night and the call handler could find no record of the letter or any claim receipt and requested I call back this morning when somebody is around that may know more.

Am I opening a world of pain here?

More likely to be a world of pain if you don't speak to them!

Best to repeat what you have done and see if you can get some answers, maybe the letter was sent to the wrong person and they've now corrected their records, who knows. But dont ignore it as its not unknown for the insurers to just pay the claim then and leave a blot on your record.

Indeed, quite difficult to prove a negative. With two other outstanding incidents on my motorbike policy it's not something I can afford really!

Had something similar recently where our insurance company wrote to us saying our car had been involved in an incident 6 months ago (it hadn't, and we have two cars on a multi-car policy, the letter didn't state which one, nor where the incident occurred).

Called our insurers and they said they had no details of the actual incident, and after a few days of messing about that it looked like a mistype of the reg' number (completely different car in the incident description) and somebody at our insurer either involved in fraud or just ignoring company policy by issuing the letter to us. Week later it was all sorted, letter confirming it was nothing to do with us etc

So finally resolved, it was opened in error but relates to an accident that's currently ongoing that occurred in 2016.

It was also a personal injury claim......

The injuries sustained as a result of this damage warrants ~£3k of compo......(yeah the door isn't even dented after being tapped by a 125cc motorbike @ 2mph after they pulled out from a side road in front of me....)

Wow, they have the nerve to claim against you even though their driver was the one who pulled out?

Doesn't make sense. They must be thick chancers.

from the picture (no damage and entering from a minor road), there must be more to this?

Standard filtering bike vs. Car pulling out accident.

There was barely a scratch on the door....they have put in a personal injury claim....the sped at impact was <2mph, my mudguard didn't even crack and there was just a small scuff on the headlight too. I replaced the gear lever and bar end and the bike was good to go again....

It's a piss take claim of the highest order. Thing is liability is being contested as we speak, as per other threads where the solicitors have properly fked up....set aside hearing is march.

Leaving aside the ridiculous suggestion that the 4x4 driver could possibly have suffered any kind if injury, I'm still not clear on blame here. Why is it considered that you could be to blame ?

Apparently there is some case law saying a filtering bike has some liability in these situations....oh and my insurers/solitoctors forgot to act on/turn up to a court summons so I'm currently fighting a CCJ for the same thing.

While incidents been a colossal clusterfk. For the sake of what was £30 of repairs and 2 hits of my time to my bike I should have just told the guy to sort it out of insurers.

Still see him once a week on my way to work, a tactically timed "stone" chip may make me feel a little better
