Here's an approach the OP could take - necessity? He's got a car clearly gaining on him significantly. If he admits 73/70 - after all, he did check his speed, and says he was only speeding to avoid the risk of being hit from behind... that just could work. Frankly though, an indicated 73 is probably under the limit.
Or... The other reason the DUB behind is clearly gaining is that our OP has hit the brakes at the point he saw the policeman? Claiming they were doing this to avoid being hit from behind wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Can you view the video clip or just the still images? If the only evidence is what you have shown, the crosshairs should be on the target vehicle when the asterisk ✳ appears.

From my experience usually this offence would be binned if the crosshairs are not on the target vehicle at the precise time the speed is recorded.

These are just photos to aid identifying the driver. A video won't be shown unless requested in court. You will probably find on the video the cross hairs are fine. Also the cross hairs are only from the video camera. If it was an LTI 20 20 it doesn't have cross hairs, instead it has a red dot. Only the operator will see this.

Yes, it's clearly him speeding - like you say the operator will have targeted correctly. However, occasionally there will be occurrences like this where the crosshairs have slipped off the target vehicle just as the speed has been visually recorded. On these occasions advice from on high has been to ditch the offence, due to a possible element of doubt from Joe public.

Also, Kent Police show you a 5 sec video clip of your offence online, but most just give you the screen grabs.

accepted the charge, and luckily they've offered a speed awareness course, so I'll take that any day!

Good result. Thanks for coming back to the thread, it's nice to see how it turned out.
