Lucky. I suspect that would have crossed the line to "Dangerous" up there.
If the offence occured in Scotland OP's friend could've gone unsigned route and avoided it entirely.

Hold on. If you fail to identify on a NIP then you get prosecuted and will receive a similar punishment to what you would have received had the actual offence gone to court.

You don’t then face the speeding charge separately. They don’t get two bites at the cherry.
They do get two bites - they are two seperate offences and the punishment for not naming the driver is for exactly that - and to discourage others from doing it.

The speeding case can proceed if the CPS think they have enough evidence to prove who was driving - and they certainly will if the OP's friend fesses up to it!

I don't believe you. You're playing to the grandstand.

You race bikes on track and are happy to hint at some of the speeds you do on rural roads for a start.

I also think the Sport X must be quicker than that, and my van that is not more than an estate with metal windows does 135 and doesn't feel particularly fast either and gets to 120+ easily.
No need to hint at bike speeds on rural roads, I’ve seen north of 150 numerous times and regularly exceed 120 on them. I’m certainly no angel. However a bike is a lot easier to play with on roads and has a lot more road to play with, compared to a car. The 120 in the car was on the M6 north of Lancaster, as some kid decided he would drive right behind me, whether I drove at a steady 85, or as low as 40. At 120 the other traffic on a sparsely populated motorway was a real hazard as I gained on them and went past so quickly. I didn’t hold that speed for more than a minute. I’ve done 100+ in my Vito and that is not fun at all, these vans are not built formthise speeds and you can really tell how unstable they become at that speed. You couldn’t pay me to max out a Vito Sport X on any road / motorway in the U.K.

To get back on point the OP’s friend must have been on a motorway / long wide dual carriageway to have any chance of getting to that speed, unless he was driving a dragster, as he’d need a huge run at it.

I don't know what type of 50 it is - i am surmising on a motorway with 'smart' motorway section - probably around Bristol. The only reason I think this, is like other have said, where else can you wind a van up to that sort of speed. It does beg the question why the 50 limit in place though as it will take some miles to get to those heady heights (which is why i myself questioned the validity of the recorded speed..)..

Not much more I can add I'm afraid.

It could well be a single-carriageway NSL - which would be 60 in a car, but 50 in a van.

Knowing what van it was might give us a clue as to how likely that is.

Anything that's not "car-derived" and <2t MAM. Your Astra might just squeek in.

It would need to be one hell of a straight single carriageway for him to manage to get to 122 though.

Sounds like we're looking for a road with an active DRS zone.
