This is the best answer so far. If they persist, send them a bunch of towbar supply & fit quotes you've got from the internet. Plus a note saying you'll be seeking damages for hurt feelings, equal to 50% of the overall cost of replacing the towbar (*sigh* good old towey *sigh*), that your wife is missing badly. Like a member of the family, that towbar was [insert Daily Fail sad compo face here], etc.
