How?

I don't agree with speed cameras, unless they are used properly.

I don't agree with excess speed on the road.
...but 80 is OK, right?

There's a TimC on that forum - not me!!

As for speed blitzes on the M4, I can't help feeling there are more deserving places for this kind of attention. As a cyclist, I couldn't give a damn what speeds people go at on a motorway. As a motorist who drives a lot on motorways, I believe it's poor driving behaviour rather than outright speeds which causes accidents and therefore deserves police attention - when it can be legitimately spared from more accident-prone roads.

How can a speed camera ever be used "properly"?

What do you mean be "excess speed"? Excess speed can apply in one situation on the same bit of road one minute, but the next minute it may not apply because of ever-changing road conditions.

I'm not sure you're really a driver.

I've just been driving at a very excessive speed indeed... And there were no cameras to protect me. Quite frankly, at the speed I was going and without a camera, it's a miracle I'm still alive

Und ..I booked a track day the other day... und drove at some vry fast speeds... und still here.

Also in Easter hols .. drove at speed which would cause unexploded doughnut to quiver...und gone would not approve....was well into three figures....

.und Mad Doc drove back from conference in Germany at speeds in excess or 120 mph. He found the UK leg at compliantish speed the most tiring - und ist now in bed...too tired to take me out to dinner Und got all jazzed up too...

:rofl;

The last time .... it was Howard und the bombed out bimbled one who drew out the claws of the Nicest Tamest Cat (my big sister...) und her equally petrolheaded husband. This whole family ist "car-azy"

But this family now has other felines on he C+ forum... und current attacker ist quite smooth und sleek. They have been present since Howard attacked Paulie...und our current guy ist playing mit them...

But.. funkiest robotic one ist no militant muesli muncher... ist person who needs to complete IAM, und HPC to learn how to drive a track day above NSL ... und needs this practice to chill out to be a cool cat in car.

But Liebchen... that ist the problem. They are not being used properly und never have been

Was victim of idiot who was taken ill.....scam could not have prevented this. BiB was stationed nearby und he could not have prevented this. Though arguably the pretzel in pandas who saw the erratic driving could have done something before he reached motorway...

Cousin was killed by defective truck - as Mary "Brake'"s mama - but scam would not have stopped this.

But there is speeding und OTT speeding. Even in Germany - you would be prosecuted for danagerous driving on unlimited A/bahn if your driving were deemed aggressive and speed overly excessive - well in excess of 85th percentile.

Und that is problem... 85th percentile on UK m/ways ist around 80-85 mph as norm ... und possibly as much as 90 mph on the quieter motorways. Accidents are not occurring as result of speed at 85th percentile (which ist above speed lmit on m/way). But they are occurring where traffic ist dense und flowing at low speed. Ist poor driving und poor COAST skills in such conditions ....

ist purrrfectly simple really....

To be honest I think the 70mph limit is a bit too low, 80 would be fine.

Don't you understand a bit of a joke and a bit of sarcasm??

Where have I stated that 80 is wrong?

When I talk of excess speed I mean around 90 - 100mph +.

Speed cameras are used properly all the time, to catch speeders, simple. The confusion appears when they are labelled 'safety' cameras, because we all know this isn't true. Speed cameras are very good at catching speeders, therfore they are being used properly in that sense. I just don't like the label of safety camera and the fact that police forces swear that they improve road safety.

I wish they would just come out and say, 'well we know they only catch speeders so that is only making about 10% of the causes of accidents safer'. 'We don't really care about dangerous drivers' who are the main cause of accidents.
