Have a read through this thread of which the OP made the same mistaken assumption as you.

More utter insanity from our resident backwards PHer...

I don't know how thick this bloke is to get himself repeatedly photographed acting like a complete tt. But I'm assuming he's far from the sharpest knife in the block.

Deserves all he gets in my opinion.

Perhaps the OP could site a case where someone got less of sentence for killing someone? Then perhaps the OP could tell us what sentence they would give for Perverting the Cause of Justice?

Oh and by the way if this was a police State You certainly wouldn't be making comments like yours.

Man gets prison sentence for being a complete dhead.

Sounds legit.

I'd have banned him for longer than a year.

What a tool. I mostly commute by bike, so if I do see a mobile van taking a forward facing pic it can’t get my plate, but it has the immediate desired effect of making me slow down. Flipping the bird just says ‘come and nick me’ to the BiB!

Laser jammers aren't that powerful.

The guy was being idiotic though.

How could you all fall for this one?

"You get less for killing someone"

Cmon lads/lasses, this one was too obvious.

Yeah but as the judge said "you will live for the rest of your life in the knowledge that your unintended actions on this occasion resulted in the deaths of two people"! Poor old fart LOL

Not really the point I was making, but well done I guess.

With no regard to context or the public interest (much like idiots too retarded to understand the gravity of Perverting the Course of Justice), yes it is possible to get less or no time for killing someone.

Zero sympathy for this idiot.

I would rather they found out what cash reserves he had available and fined him double, as opposed to putting a pathetic old guy in prison at the states expense.

I don't believe that is true.

Genuinely, why? What happened with them? All a quick google shows is some dodgy jokes wky-Franky Boyle made in 2012.

He got sent down for perverting or attempting to pervert the course of justice, which is justiably a serious offence in this country. Bear in mind you can be jailed for contempt of court.

It's a necessary legal mechanism to stop people taking the piss. inadvertent crimes are often treated much more leniently than ones committed by flagrant lawbreakers. I believe intent is often a key factor.

Well deserved, PCoJ is a right pain in the ass for the police and a huge time sink, think of it, if he'd just taken the ticket it would be fine through the door and job done.

But oh no, now someone has to spend time investigating costing tax payers money, he wants to string it out more and lie etc etc involving more man hours, a court date costing fk knows how much just because some bell end thinks he's above the law

What a muppet.

On a side note, and not strictly relevant but just something I have found myself wondering, is it actually illegal to give the finger to the camera van operatives? I have never done so, but I have always wondered if that would be some sort of offence.

I'd imagine it could constitute some form of public order offence. You aren't strictly supposed to make a rude gesture at anyone. I don't suppose it made a material difference in case, except to prevent the defendant from using contrition as a part of his defence. He clearly wasn't sorry!
