Drink driver posts video from dash cam

The law is far to antiquated and out of date for motoring offences like this though. If someone bought a samurai replica sword and went running drunk through a shopping centre waving it at people I am pretty sure the punishment wouldn't be a small fine and told you cant buy one for a year. (although it probably would thinking about it!)
The repercussions of getting smashed, then driving like that have to be higher so they act as a deterrent, not as a punishment. Should be an automatic 5 year ban plus more depending on what happened, certainly some jail time too. Car confiscated and sold at auction and money given to charities that support victims of drunk drivers. Anything really that stops people knowing IF they even get caught its a minor slap on the wrist.

We actually followed someone late at night along that same stretch of road driving in a similar manor, maybe not quite as bad but clearly something wrong with them. By the time my wife had got hold of the police and explained the situation they had given us the slip by pulling up at some lights in the left hand lane in front of us then turning right across 2 lanes and down another road.
We gave the police the Reg number and direction they were heading in but they said they had no available cars in that area so unless they crashed id assume they made it to there destination ok. Don't know if the police would have taken any further action like call round the next day as would be hard to prove then with only our word for there poor driving

I thought these days the fine is supposed to be proportional to your earnings?
So why was she fined less than £200 as stated in the OP.
Ant paid a fair bit above that, and a teacher earns a tidy wage.
Ant got a fine for his drink driving and the value of that fine was based on his earnings. This teacher wasn't fined but had to pay £85 costs and an £85 'victim surcharge', but she did get a 12-month community order (150 hours of unpaid work). So why was she fined less than £200 as stated in the OP.

You get a ban and a fine (like McPartlin), or a ban and a community order like this case (and like Wayne Rooney did for example), you don't get both a fine and community order.

WOW she must have been seriously pissed.
You surely don't drive like that after a couple of glasses of wine, more like a few bottles of wine. To drive off the road a number of times you must be legless to not realise that you needed to stop and pull over.
3 250ml glass = 1 whole bottle. You surely don't drive like that after a couple of glasses of wine, more like a few bottles of wine. To drive off the road a number of times you must be legless to not realise that you needed to stop and pull over.

Exactly, do you think you would be that impaired from 1 bottle of wine? But frankly yes, if I downed a bottle of wine I would be pretty pissed. I'd be quite worried if I wasn't pretty pissed after a whole bottle.
