thats the spot m8, i always call it the nantwhich bypass, but yes the A500.

it's a fantastic road, around 2.5/3 years old....surface is as smooth as silk and very very straight.
i've not even seen any crash debris along the road either.

The Op was exactly as you descibe as I was heading from M6 towards Chester. I was squinting into the sun trying to see him rather than watching the empty road.

Lets just hope they are sensible ......i fear not though

It's taking you all a while to realise that there ain't no rules that say it's a nice road, ignore the 70 limit, it's good weather, ignore the 70 limit, it's a long straight road and traffic was light, igbore the 70 limit!

So why are you "miffed", why do you think it unfair that a Police Officer is carrying out some law enforcement?

Your disquiet is not really justified is it?

Besides I thought you wanted a Police Officer with discretion behind the laser!

Perhaps you should have "Don't shoot me! I'm an above average driver" badges on the front of your vehicle.

And I think a hugh flag made to look like a £50 would be good on your vehicle, maybe we might see you then, cos at the moment you are trying to look like anything but a speed camera van.

how about people who have an ounce of common sense know the 70 limit is bollox and isn’t realistic given good conditions? How about people think for themselves? How about maybe your nicking 60 quid of the majority of people who exceed a stupid limit isn’t doing a massive amount of good.

You pretend your motives are about road safety, but all your interested in is getting your 2500 quid or so every month.

If you have something sensible to say then say it. Otherwise, off you thieving toe rag.

Why am I miffed?

Had I been travelling too close to a vehicle, or approaching a junction or roundabout at excessive speed then I'd not be miffed to get scammed. But as I was traveling along a straight stretch of road....a good 1mile straight on a perfect road in a perfectly road worthy modern vehicle with nothing at all in sight of me, I feel bloody miffed tbh.

There are NO pavements at roadside for me to mow down pedestrian's on, and as mentioned I know of no serious impact or injury on the stretch.....so where is the importance of enforcing that particular point if not to raise cash for the christmas drink fund?

The stretches of road either side of this new D Cway are single lane and twisty NSL areas, but are they singled out?, hell no because the tractor you get stuck behind keeps the pace lower.. no cash there is there!

And destroyer exactly what is the benefit of pinging a driver on a safe section of road if they were driving safely?

And on this subject who is responsible for installing all the new laybys (small ones) at the end of every straight bit of road that are now frequented by the £camera brigade. Yes I'm very aware there have been deaths on these roads (eg at junctions) as I have personally been involved (party to the aftermath) in two recently but none have occured on such stretches.

Do you not believe a better standard of driving by all would have a much better safety benefit?

I see nothing but sarcasim in your posts, are you a camera enforcer? if so, go get a life!

Until the Notice of intended theft arrives, I haven't been caught doing anything, so feck off with your comments....please.

When you can give a justified reason for targeting such a section of road, then i'll take your comments on board.

As readers will know, I am in no way an apologist for destroyer, but I do feel that if you are going to criticise a spelling error in a post, you might try to avoid making one yourself. You might also have tried to avoid making the other 10 errors too (three words not capitalised, three missing apostrophes, two other missing punctuation marks, one typographical error and one solecism). Perhaps you were typing in haste whilst deeply irritated .

Whether the police officer exercised his discretion in this case is something that only the arrival or not of a NIP will determine. However, the positioning (gross and precise) of the officer might be taken by those who know the road better to suggest that his discretion might have been exercised initially to better effect by standing elsewhere aong the road or on another road ... at a location with a history of 'greater-than-limit' accidents, and by ensuring there was high visibility of both himself and his task - Streaky

Hi guys

I glanced at the speedo and i think it indicated about 75!!! but can't be sure really as to be quite honest I was enjoying the drive along the nice smooth empty section of road.

75 in a 70 isn't worth pissing your pants over.

I'm hoping that was the approx true speed, as I said I wasn't paying that much attention to the speedo...guilty!
The speedo of the vehicle I was in has major markings for 70 and then 90, so I suppose it could have been anywhere around that area.

If I hadn't have been squinting into the sun to try and get a fix on the scammer i'd have noted the speed more accurately and taken the approprate action to once again comply with the law.

I still haven't been able to find any information on what the suspected trigger speed would have been on such a road.

Thanks for the help and constructive comments thus far.

I *think* it's the Police that man this trap, so they may well use the standard 10% +2MPH. So with normal speedo over-reading, indicated low 80's could be OK. However it's a bit irrelevant in your case 'cos you've no clear idea of your actual speed.

I know you where somewhat dazzled and didn't see the camera (whereas I just didn't see it) but one thing you have to do is stand on the brakes when you do spot these units - they take an instant reading, so it's no use just allowing your speed to drift down.

Agreed with the braking point m8.....even though that might well have caused a danger to people behind me..........(had the road not have been empty).

I guess the coming week and a bit will tell.....especially if I get a call into the boss' office
