He has the car and by the pics it looks fine. Might need some work but what does he expect for a stupidly low price - that could easily be worth 3x what he paid.
And at least its not an imaginary car.
Well we’ve yet to see the custard test - it’s all purely on his word so far
Bumpy - still no pics of any kind of this lovely beast.

This is a windup surely? Nobody sends £10k to someone in another country in the hope a car arrives do they?!

A friend of mine recently sold his Audi to two chaps from EIRE. They travelled over to England on the basis that finding a genuine car in Ireland was difficult as “people over there are up to all sorts”. If the OP is true then the OP appears to have done the opposite, with predictable results.

OP if this isn’t a windup then I wish you the best of luck. Bank transfers can’t be reversed without the permission of the other party so you’ll need to appeal to his good nature to get it back.

I sold my V8S to an Irish guy sight unseen. We chatted over the phone, I described the car, we agreed a price, he sent a lorry over to pick it up, transferred the money to my account, loaded the car and off it went to Ireland.

He phoned me a couple of days later to say he was very happy with it, I was mightily relieved.

OP good luck with it - I'm sympathetic to your feelings although you're saying you know you might have made a mistake. Don't give up on the car even if you don't get any money back - I haven't seen the pictures but maybe with a bit of TLC you'll be able to fall in love with it.

I doubt it is but if it is he’ll be on the banned naughty step for a month..

At least you got a car, it could have been much worse.

If you don't get your money back, which I doubt you will, I would either treat it as a project and enjoy it, or cut my losses and move it on. Sell it on but be honest about it.

Who the fk are you to be asking anyone for proof?

If you told me it was raining I would still go outside and have a look.

I want to see pictures too, I'm interested in what a sub-£10k Esprit is actually like.

Yes, we noticed.

We also noticed that the pictues aren't very good, or detailed.

We noticed that the entire trigger for this thread is someone taking those photos at face value.

We noticed that the OP says:

Oh and the reason they're all of the drivers side is because the nearside turbo side skirt is damaged at the front.

A convicted rat served the time 5+ years ago

We only have the pics in the eBay advert link - surely OP can nip outside and take some more with Patak or Custard / whatever to satisfy the warriors + it’s actually interesting to know how bad a £9.8k lotus Esprit can be 😁

Does the usual eBay dispute process not apply to Cars?

Usually a doddle to return anything 'not as described'?

He didn't buy it through Ebay's service, they won't care. Best he can hope for is the seller getting a slap on the wrist for dealing outside of Ebay.

To be fair if you were going to post up that OP and look like a bit of a nugget spending 10k like this, well.......... Fairly sure this is not something you would make up...

A quick note to those doing some speculating on behalf of the OP. The price of £9800 is a reasonable amount to pay for a 1988 Esprit Turbo. It's not exceptionally cheap, nor is the car going to be worth three times that once it's had a polish.
Its price tag alone wouldn't ring alarm bells for me.

To be honest unless prices have depressed since last year when we were looking it does look cheap for a turbo, we nearly bought an na for not much less at all that had about as many issues as this one. Ultimately it's a lotus, as an ex and hopefully future lotus owner again you buy a lotus expecting to do work on them, I've got my doubts as to the authenticity of the thread it's got a definite WB ring to it, but the main thing that would be worrying me is structural issues. If it was my car I'd just get knuckled down and get it sorted. I wouldn't have been in a rush to buy a cat c in the first place mind.

Is it? It seems markedly cheaper than most I've seen in my recent memory, not that I particularly go looking for them. I thought a decent one was £20k+.

I just had a quick look around a couple of sites, and I'm not seeing anything around the £10k mark that isn't very much a project.
