Just watched a random YouTube video of the Duke of Cambridge. Video was of him taking baby George home from hospital. Vehicle was a range rover.

Question is about the RR having blue (emergency services type) lights fitted. Car was his own personal vehicle.. He was definitely driving whilst blue lights were in operation.

Is this just another royal perk/exemption? Is it normal for royal family vehicles to be fitted with them?

Posting purely out of interest over the question, not a bash the royal family thread.

Appreciate any info :-)

Hardly matters really does it? If he wants roads closed / SEG escort anywhere, it is at his beck & call

He only encounters traffic by choice

In reference to?

Would William have undertaken some "blue light" training then? Pretty cool perk of the "job"!

Kind of similar to the Russian elite and their "migalka"

Always makes me chuckle watching the special escort motorcycle police on their sports bikes and their whistles!

Free fixed wing and rotary flying training / licence and pick of duties e.g sar / air amb is a better perk imo

I'm assuming as in the many other police cutback threads and cutback excuses they don't apply to certain sections of society "all in it together: eh rolleyes
Couldn't move for BIB down Buck palace earlier this week, in fact absolutely no different from any time I'm in that neck of the woods you can't move for understaffed and underfunded BIB, as noted elsewhere it's all about 'priorities' eh rolleyes

You do know the police there are not for the people inside the palace but the visitors outside?

Oh and i’ve seen an old 1970’s Aston Martin in Windsor Great Park with an escort and blue lights fitted. Didn’t see who was driving, was to worried about all the police bike which suddenly appeared at warp snott.

I assume the visitors to the UK, who are coming because of the Royal Family / visiting the palaces / marketing effect of the weddings etc and all that entails have no positive impact on the UK econcomy at all. So better kick them out and not pay for their stuff /give them some privileges - am sure it will work splendidly - Brexit seems to have been a good move too - why stop while on a role

I always find the above argument a bit perverse as most people never see those tourist pounds.

What good are those tourists to you unless you are making money out of those tourists and thereby offsetting the tax you are paying or the time and money you waste when in London?

Someone is making money out of them and you are still paying for it one way or the other!

You obviously do not understand economics. Foreign money being spent in London is bringing money into the UK creating a better balance of payments. The tax paid by the shop-owner on the foreign sourced income is extra tax into the economy, thus reducing the amount of tax UK people have to pay.

Well the money those tourists spend is taxed, so even if you don’t directly benefit from it, the tax pounds flow back into schools, roads, the nhs etc (and before anybody complains about how bad the nhs is, at least there is medical insurance for everybody even those who can’t afford to pay for it) and the people making the money, spend their cash on other UK services/goods again etc - so overall I’d think (even if I don’t know) it should be cash positive for the UK as a country

FFRR?? Hand in your PH card and see yourself out.

It was a Disco for Will's hehehttps://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/6128324/kate-willi...

Any RR would therefore be royal protection officers

Love how they quote the price in the headline. Also, I would have thought that it is not an upgrade in size (only number of seats) ....

Even the Royal Family's older Rolls Royce's have a blue priority light on the front of the roof.
