I have a feeling that they would need some expensive lawyering to force you to remove a post that doesn't slag them off!

This is getting interesting!

Try not to stress about this, i am sure it will all work out.

Post the wording of your review word for word here and we can give you a view of whether you are in dodgy ground or not.

You could take the chance to remove it if they cease and desist their correspondence with you - perhaps call them up and suggest that?

Here is the post word for word minus the debt collecting company name

Happy Midsummer!
Has anyone had any experience of **** Debt Collectors in ****?

I was unfortunately the victim of a rogue trader 3 weeks ago who are chasing me for money for services never carried out and despite my reasonable request via email to discuss the matter they have ignored me and sent it to this debt collectors.

The trader has already been reported to trading standards and gas safe so should hopefully not target others.

I have googled **** debt collectors and there are countless posts on forums about their unscrupulous ways so I’m a bit hesitant with what to do next.

Any advise would be gratefully received.

And although I am not wanting to name and shame, if anyone was thinking of hiring a company they haven’t used before for plumbing or heating or drainage work, pm me and I’d be happy to let you know who to avoid.

The company in question made me sign a bill under duress before they would leave whilst I had a screaming baby in my arms.
I paid a call out fee and they tried to take more money from my card without authorisation.
Outstayed their welcome and continued to stay in my house for 1.5 hours to get a bill from me and wanted £144 per hour for the privilege.
Since then another company was able to do the work required, didn’t charge call out or investigation work and was shocked at this persons practises.

Thank you for your time‘’

I don't see how that can be considered libellous?

Me neither...
I’ve commented again on the same thread saying what I’ve received and that il be in touch with trading standards about it before I remove it as it does not seem libellous to me.
Il probably get another letter on Tuesday

Someone should explain to them that libel (and I doubt that your post is libellous) isn’t a crime.

You could, perhaps replace ‘their unscrupulous ways‘ with ‘their methods’.

You have them rattled, that’s good.

I'd add to your facebook group their name & their follow up response to yours with the additional threats!

Yelp, trip advisor, googled reviews etc would die over night if they could be sued for negative reviews!

It's not libel if it's true...
I think it unlikely they'll pursue a libel case against you, it's crazy expensive for an uncertain outcome.

Please don't be. I'm not legally qualified, but even with my simple knowledge of 'stuff' that letter (and the sequence of events) is a joke.

Do you have a Citizen's Advice nearby you can speak to? They're generally pretty good at these things and will be grateful for the break of scenery from benefit questions smile

Stories like this really do boil my piss...

It's the same companies that will target and pressure sell to the elderly and vulnerable.

This is exactly the type of thing that Watchdog / Rogue Traders would be interested in.

If your comments were posted in a private local group, I can only guess another member has screenshot your post to the plumbing company/debt collector, how else would they have known? as private groups on FB are not viewable to the general public

Exactly. I double checked - the group is private.
2500 members do not huge. I checked the names from the letters against the member list and they aren’t on there but could be under different names or any one else in their company I suppose

I’d love to get rogue traders involved (if they are even still around?)
But I really don’t want to be appearing on tv

Thank you for your reassurance.

My local citizens advise put me in touch with trading standards who have given me a case handler. I’ve got a direct email address so I will be sending all this through to them when I can sit down at the laptop and fingers crossed they can help. I need a little reassurance that I’m not needing to start hiring a solicitor

They are part of Watchdog now - I'd give them a call if only for some free advice.

I would also speak to your home insurance - they may provide legal cover / advice in these situations.
