Thought they would.

Now would be a good time to remove your “implied right of access”
Im meant to be remortgaging later this year. Bit worried this might affect my credit rating. Especially if baliffs are going to get involved.

it say's "our debt collectors" I would imagine this is just suzie who works on the next desk over.

If they have sold it on, or employed a debt collection agency, then this agency will contact you shortly.

I don't think this situation would go on your credit rating file anyhow, as the plumbers do not have a credit agreement with you.
Should I bother responding to them or wait for the debt collector ?

Do nothing, you’ve already told them why you’re not going to pay. Debt collectors can’t do much without a Court order, it’s simply scare tactics.

Someone else suggested contacting a solicitor but that would cost money you most likely won’t get back. There really is no need.

No they can’t do anything to your credit rating without going to Court and winning.
Thank you, this was reasurring to read.

I did all trading standards in the end.

They were very helpful and have said that everything I've mentioned is huge red flags to them and the would want to investigate them and remind them of the law and quoted a specific regulation.

They advised emailing back one last time with a summary which I have just done.

This was my response:

I have not received a response to my last email querying your invoice.

To summarise:

• The team spent 1.5 hours at my house to provide an estimate for a new boiler and for leak detection of which you provide free estimates.

• I never received an estimate for leak detection using any sonic listening equipment or cat and genny.

• I was informed at the beginning of the visit that IGM were unable to locate the leak during the visit as the boiler itself was leaking.
Something I made clear as the main point of the call out was because I needed a new boiler; I accepted this was the case and asked them to quote for the boiler.

• I did not hire anyone to come around and probe holes into my wall using a moisture meter.

• I had a screaming baby in my arms and felt quite vulnerable when it was made clear they were outstaying the necessary time and wanted me to sign the invoice under duress without being able to read any terms and conditions beforehand.

• No pricing structure or T&C’s were ever given verbally or in writing prior to the appointment or during the appointment.

• At no point during the appointment was it made clear that I would be charged until a bill was written up when leaving.

• I have not been provided with a copy of your terms and conditions with the boiler estimate that followed.

• You attempted to take payment from my card without my authorisation.

• Late payment fees and admin fees have been added to the invoice that is in dispute.

• I informed you in my previous email that I was out of the country with limited access to internet and no ability to make payments remotely.

• I have paid a call out fee and been reasonable and up until now I have been open to discussion / potential negotiation.

• In less than 3 weeks since IGM’s visit to my house you have passed this to a debt collector and I have therefore sought assistance from Trading Standards who have given advise in accordance with the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014.

Probably another dodgy debt collecting company run by a friend or a family member. How many innocent people will they have done this to over the years? Shocking.
it's a lot less scary and threatening than I imagined a debt collection letter would be.
Well, they're not going to mention the baseball bat and knuckle duster collection in any written documentation are they??
I’m actually considering going down to their offices. It’s probably some spotty teenager behind a desk.
I’m a hormonal woman who manages on no sleep and has biceps of steel thanks to lifting giant baby. I could be quite scary

I checked the plumbing company on companies house today.

Says they were incorporated last year and there have been no name changes and there is no link to the director to any other active or dissolved businesses.

I have found articles fo the company being active in 2015, and also his own Linkedin profile says he has been running the business since 1996

Owner
IGM Plumbing Heating & Drainage

So cute. The owner even left his own review on google. Including a picture of some shoddy wiring that would blow the heads of any PH spark.
As far as I can tell from looking through his facebook contacts, all the other reviews on google (that are positive) are from either family or friends...

I just looked up the M.D. on LinkedIn. If he saw this thread he might realise he’s onto a loser.

Tempting. scratchchin

I was reading this and thought the name sounded familiar...

That's because one of the workers used to keep his van in the car park under my flat.. that was until I got woken up at 3am on a Saturday night by sirens, he'd taken them on quite a chase and for some reason thought it'd be a good idea to drive back to where he lived. Where he was promptly ripped out of the van and cuffed.

eek
That looks like they’ve driven through a stinger and then driven for quite a while on it. Naughty boy

Update - just arrived home from night away to find another letter from the debt collectors threatening me to delete a Facebook post within a private local group where I was asking if anyone had heard of them or had dealings with them.
Ive been told in the letter if I don’t delete my Facebook post that they will instruct solicitors saying that my comments were libellous. I’ve not said anything negative about the company other than ask if anyone had heard of them as the reviews posted online make them appear to be difficult to deal with

Post the wording of your review word for word here and we can give you a view of whether you are in dodgy ground or not.

You could take the chance to remove it if they cease and desist their correspondence with you - perhaps call them up and suggest that?
Here is the post word for word minus the debt collecting company name

Happy Midsummer!
Has anyone had any experience of **** Debt Collectors in ****?

I was unfortunately the victim of a rogue trader 3 weeks ago who are chasing me for money for services never carried out and despite my reasonable request via email to discuss the matter they have ignored me and sent it to this debt collectors.

The trader has already been reported to trading standards and gas safe so should hopefully not target others.

I have googled **** debt collectors and there are countless posts on forums about their unscrupulous ways so I’m a bit hesitant with what to do next.

Any advise would be gratefully received.

And although I am not wanting to name and shame, if anyone was thinking of hiring a company they haven’t used before for plumbing or heating or drainage work, pm me and I’d be happy to let you know who to avoid.

The company in question made me sign a bill under duress before they would leave whilst I had a screaming baby in my arms.
I paid a call out fee and they tried to take more money from my card without authorisation.
Outstayed their welcome and continued to stay in my house for 1.5 hours to get a bill from me and wanted £144 per hour for the privilege.
Since then another company was able to do the work required, didn’t charge call out or investigation work and was shocked at this persons practises.

Thank you for your time‘’

Me neither...
I’ve commented again on the same thread saying what I’ve received and that il be in touch with trading standards about it before I remove it as it does not seem libellous to me.
Il probably get another letter on Tuesday
