So the update no one was wanting to hear and I was dreading to give -

I settled.

I had excellent help from so many people but even with the majority of PistonHeads wanting to fight my corner my husband and family all wanted me to get it put into the past.

There were many reasons for this but the main issue being that we had a friends wedding abroad to go to the same week of the court date and advice was that you couldn’t defer the court date once set unless for a very good reason and that it wouldn’t be a good idea To not be present at the court hearing.

We are abroad now and not returning until next week.

Add into the mix a close family member who was in such a bad mental state, and a house that flooded from a burst water main back in January it’s been a really tough beginning of the year and my mental health has also suffered.
I have had some counselling but still get very shaky thinking about the guys that came to my house that day.

We have only just got carpets reinstalled at home so it’s been a long process and it’s time to start being a family again now we have some time.

I hate myself for not fighting further and letting this man carry on doing what he was doing.

I want him to get what’s due to him and all I can hope is karma will catch up one day.

Mangos, I've followed your thread with interest and, whilst this may not be the justice we all felt you deserve, I am happy that you can now put what has clearly been a stressful experience, well and truly behind you.

I have no doubt that at some point in the future, the universe will see to it that this guy gets his just desserts.

Absolutely. Principles are important, but family and sanity come first.

Sorry but I don't get this. Why waste weeks/months of your time dealing with it to fold at the last minute ? Doing this simply is giving another rogue trader the confidence to keep doing the same to more and more people.

Did you read her post? She quite clearly explains why she decided to settle and I'm sure we've only seen a fraction of how it's affected her and home life.

Hope you get back to a happier place soon Mango and the 2nd half of the year is a better one for you and fam.

Don't worry, Mangos, your decision makes sense.

You've given him a good run for his money and he may well be more reluctant to do this in future in case he ends up having to waste more time and effort.

Also, if anyone googles him, this thread will probably pop up. Does any SEO expert want to make this thread more prominent? biggrin

While it's always nice to see an ahole get what they deserve your peace of mind is more important.

It's been a bit of a roller coaster but at least now you can move on.

Best of luck.

At least he's been dragged along and that will have cost him time and money.

There was always a risk that the OP could have lost the case. In the circumstances she has inflicted at least some cost and inconvenience on the claimant which might deter similar conduct in the future.

There’s always some risk so the op ‘could’ have lost but the plumbers case had more holes than a Swiss Cheese.

Very disappointing but stress does funny things to the mind.

Yes but, still it seems a silly situation to be in to be honest - I would have fought it, if you went to court and lost then you're in the same position you are in now.

The bully plumber can just carry on -

Oh well, not going to beat you up for the decision, I can understand why you made it but I wouldn't have backed off at this point personally.

Enjoy your holiday!

Ah well, at least you dealt with it on your own terms OP. Glad it’s over for you.

I think Court proceedings can be very worrying for someone who hasn’t dealt with them before or isn’t a lawyer.

Indeed but had the case gone to Court and the plumber won (very unlikely imo) the op would have been no worse off than by folding before the hearing.

That depends on the terms of the settlement.
