If they do somehow produce a document, don't just pay up, take time to consider it anyway, if you didn't sign it it's not binding.
PH are rooting for you.

I'd be looking for a new job anyway.

It's worth pointing out for the OP that the risk in business lies with the employer. You are paid to perform your job as instructed. If you have carried out your duties with sufficent care that you have not made any mistakes (in other words the same as any of your colleagues would have done) in relation to this telephone payment then the OP is categorically not liable for the fraud.

Secondly, and as another poster has said, even if you were liable for their losses (which you are not in this case) you are not liable for anything more than the cost price of the items, not for the VAT element as that would be written off.

Either way, if you did end up paying it (and I hope you did not!) and have left the company, you'd probably be within your rights to bring a civil claim against the company for unlawful deduction from your wages. You could bring it while working for the company, and even threaten it if they are still going on at you, but it's likely to be a real issue with continued employment!
