Really glad about this. They need to eradicate the remaining ones.
My experience, living right next to one, is they work so much better than before.
I am inclined to agree with you. The concept is good, just a little flawed. If you had more patrols and more emergency refuse points, they would be great.
They are never great.

Instead of controlling immigration to ease congestion, we remove hard shoulders.

Utterly stupid.

The hard shoulder is on the left, you know.
Are you sure you approve of them?

A right is something where there is a positive assertion that it is a right, rights can be qualified or limited. Something being, licensed, permitted or not prohibited is far short of a right. Take me to the legislation or common law that driving is a right.
Take me to the legislation enshrining your right to wear a hat.

We have laws limiting the right to drive a car - until they were created there were no restrictions.

On what grounds can you be arbitrarily prevented from getting a licence and driving?
Did you read what I wrote. You are free to wear what you want but it isn't a right precisely because there is nothing making it so. It's OK that you didn't understand what a right was initially and still failing could be the fault of those trying to explain it.

We are a permissive country. However, again, just because something isn't prohibited or is allowed - doesn't make it a right.

Having children is a right, you do not need permission or a licence.
I waived my rights there. No regrets. laugh
Same and judging by some of the people out there, you should need a license. whistle
I would agree that having children should not be a right, rather tested for aptitude etc.

Exceedingly simple, a number of medical grounds stop you. Surely this simple fact alone proves it is not a right.

But that’s not arbitrary. A protocol is followed.

The reasons don't really matter because in the end you cannot argue that a hard shoulder is safer than all live lane running.
I don't think anyone is arguing that.

I just think it would be much easier and cheaper to do something about our lax laws. That wouldn't just improve life for motorway users, it would improve life for every road user.

Of course any attempt at making life easier for road users is immediately denounced as a "war on the motorist."
