Busted with Illegal plate
Discussion
Got a nice picture through the post today of my illegal plate along with my £100 picture fee !!!. Not that illegal that they couldnt find me though sadly. I am not sure if the van was ANPR or if it was a speeding cam van that took the pic. I wasnt speeding, just the plate got recorded. If its now common to take these pics through speed cam vans then I guess a lot will possibly suffer, but ANPR vans are a lot less common. Does anyone know the type of vans that capture and fine illegal plates?

Doesn't make it right (even with your exaggeration as to the numbers) and you still haven't answered why.
Jeez ...it was the correct font, typeface etc. one space was removed. And if you think dodgy plates number in the hundreds only then you are sadly mistaken. Can you go and get indignant on some other post now?My neighbour is a bit of a knob as well. He has an illegal number plate, I haven't worked out what it is meant to represent, he said it's his wife's name or something. He has been pulled up by by police, keeps getting a warning. He has to swap them out at MOT time. I'll let him know that they are now picking these up on camera.
I can clearly see the vitriole towards taking a liberty with any number plate. Lets all accepts its crap, i am a knob like your neighbours and all others convicted of any motoring offence etc etc. I was just surprised after having it on the car in the exact same format for 15 years cameras are just picking up on it thats all. I am not defending the plate or myself, just curious to understand the changes in camera abilities etc.

Not indignant, just find it funny that you know it's illegal, have got a fine (hopefully one of many) yet still think it's OK and have a go at someone who thinks otherwise. But then I forget you are "special"

For somebody who's not defending themselves, you're awfully defensive. I'm surprised that with 122 months under your belt you hadn't picked up on the general distate for personal numberplates there is round here.Back to the original point...I'd be surprised if speed cams were being used for this but clearly it's technically possible. Can you identify the piece of road from the pic as that might help pinpoint if it's a known spot for the camera guys.

So what makes you so special then, that you have to alter your number plate to help identify who you are?
Just because other people do it doesn't make it right.

Had i asked your views on private plates and legalities of, i would perhaps expect to get them. If you feel the need to provide them in any case then so be it. I dont recall saying i was special or ever defended the plate in any way whatsoever, i dont even care about the fine, its peanuts. My question was simply on cam van capability. Lets just finish this by saying you are right, I am wrong and move on. Just because other people do it doesn't make it right.

No not defending myself at all, its wrong, i got done and rightly so. Looked on the pic and it was a speed cam location according to the web site on mobile cams. But on the misread bit then i agree.......... got that one wrong didnt I. That will teach me ......next post will be on more vanilla subjects for sure Back to the original point...I'd be surprised if speed cams were being used for this but clearly it's technically possible. Nothing wrong with personal number plates. I have one, properly spaced, all legal. Illegal number plates are a different matter.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
